I saw this production tonight. Just brilliant. The best live version I’ve seen of the show that first sparked my musical theatre interest at age 12. Even better than professional casts. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤

Literally in the directors notes of the script it says that LOLA HAS TO BE A BLACK MALE as its required. I would know because I’m in it right now.

Went to see this twice with my then fiancè, loved it, makes me a little sad that I can't hear it again from an album or something. The vocals were and are amazing. It'd be nice to experience those good times again.

Eli Peel Usually I’dagree. But when it’s the show with lyrics like “I’m your Cocoa Butter Bitch” the insuiation that’s she’s black is there. I’m sure that was a purposeful move considering majority of yours and the many regional houses that are doing Kinky Boots have made Lola black. I agree with your thinking just no in this exact context

In real life the inspiration for Lola is actually white.. only in the film and stage version is she black.

Eli Peel also, I should add, as someone who saw it many times. The Muny wasn’t trying to do their own take on it. They were doing the Broadway production in theory. But they couldn’t rent the original sets so they had to make their own.
