Simple question please: with regard to the Peterson G31, G45 and G52 Real Fyre vented burners, which of these produces the biggest, most realistic flames?

if it was meant for logs. it would have a pipe stubbed off inside the firebox for gas logs.

We bought our aluminum and Sunbrella patio furniture from Linda at Fleet Plummer a couple of years ago and it has been fantastic. Linda helped us find exactly what we needed and told us a lot about the products and was there for us when we were ready to add to our collection. Everything has withstood the outdoor weather well. Sitting in my blue cushioned lounge chair by outpr fish pond as I write this!

Heating the whole outside is a myth...The heat that is in a room does not leave. It may feel like it , but the truth is that the cold air comes in and takes the place of the warm air. Buying a fireplace door to stop the heat from going up the chimney is a wrong choice of action. If you want to fix the cold air problem in a chimney you should look at getting a proper cap,such as a vacu-stack cap.
@jbm0745

Eric Wright I think you misunderstood him. The point of the door is to stop conditioned air from escaping out of the vent while the fireplace is not in use, since the damper most always be open.

Could you explain how the vent-free logs work? I do not understand. I see it would make sense to have a ceiling fan or other way to circulate the air.
@FleetPlummer
@FleetPlummer 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Mary! Vent-free logs simply do not have a damper or chimney that reaches outside, so they produce more warmth because all of the heat they generate stays inside. They are not very different from a gas burner on a stove, but are a lot more attractive!

looking to get my wood burning fireplace changed to a propane one and did not know the vent free came as an insert with blower and glass door .I talked to the guy from midway propane who showed me logs from NC but never mentioned this option .I live in VA 15 minutes from the NC border in Pittsylvania county .I am supposed to go to the showroom to see samples .Now will have to ask about this .Do you have a web sight

I have a gas fireplace, I've had wood stoves in the past, there's a key mechanism to the right of the log stack inside the fireplace. I also have a light switch style mechanism to the right of the fireplace to turn on the vent. I don't know when the fireplace was serviced last, is it okay to try and light or do I need a professional to survey it first? Thank you in advance.

We always recommend consulting a gas log technician in your area before operating if unsure about the time of the last maintenance. Better safe than sorry. Hope this helps.

Very helpful ... thank you. I must have vent free because it made the room VERY HOT. I disconnected it for that reason. Can I assume that I could replace that set with a vented set? There is no chimney. But of course the natural gas comes in from the outside. Thank you.
@FleetPlummer
@FleetPlummer 7 жыл бұрын
If there is no chimney, you can only use vent-free. If your room got too hot, you may want to look into a variable burner system. Please consult a gas log technician in your area.

Ok help me out here, I just purchased a new pleasant hearth ventless fireplace and turned it on and the flames are blue and cannot be seen as well as the ventless models you show. I call the manufacturer and they said the flames were supposed to be blue. I am very disappointed because that's not what they showed in their pictures. How can I make my flames yellow like yours? Thanks Gary

Gary, I'm not sure how to help. We don't carry Pleasant Hearth products, so I'm not familiar enough with them to say. I would hope they would look like they do in the promotional materials!

Like the previous poster, I too, have never heard of Pleasant Hearth Products. It is not supposed to look that way. Sounds to me like it may have an air mixture problem, which is solvable.

Unvented logs then do not require that the damper is open while operating? Also, gas logs always run with "natural gas"? I guess I need to find out different types.
@FleetPlummer
@FleetPlummer 7 жыл бұрын
Unvented logs do not require an open damper, even while operating. Gas logs can be run with natural gas or liquid propane. Be sure to check which one you have before buying a burner.

Best explanation I've seen! Great voice... Hope you're getting some commission from your manufacturers for that great commercial pitch! Can you tell me if they have a system with a blower fan to better move the heat it produces from the ventless system?
@FleetPlummer
@FleetPlummer 7 жыл бұрын
Blowers are part and parcel of pre-fabricated metal fireboxes. The firebox is designed to accommodate the blower and direct the air flow so that it does not change the flame pattern of the log set. On a brick and mortar fireplace, the use of a blower with vent free is ill advised. Your best friend here is an overhead ceiling fan with the column of air going up so that it splashes into the pool of heat on the ceiling and washes the heated air down the side walls. Here again, we do not want to change the flame pattern of the log set so be sure that your fan is not blowing down into the fireplace.

Also should my damper be kept close in the summer, btw I'm in Texas.
@FleetPlummer
@FleetPlummer 7 жыл бұрын
Your damper should be closed (or mostly closed ) anyway if it's a vent free. That's what allows you to keep all of the heat that you produce. Can't see any reason to open it in the summer. That's just going to help draw all of your cool air in the house up and out. If it's vented, go ahead and close it if you don't have any glass doors.

Very straight forward usefull information. To bad somebody can't come up with a combination of the two, realistic fire of the vented and heat of the ventless. And come up with a damper that can be closed.
