I love the story. I applied for an internship / support job at Atlantis (you were still there) a couple of months ago and I got ghosted after some back and forth emails 🥹 Now I’m applying for an internship at Wisseloord, I’m 43 and came from Nicaragua in 2019, but just finished my audio engineering studies, and obviously need to put in alooooooot of work 😅

2000 dollars per monitor is a lot of money. Saying that it means or doesn’t mean they are good is irrelevant. The problem I see with monitors in general is that most cities do not have a place you can go to that has all of them available in a treated room that is setup for recording.

@@thomasvopstal 1000 dollars per monitor still out of the price range for most people even doing music as a hobby. The pros don’t even spend this kind of money anymore. The things I see in most home studio tours are super cheap models. It’s time for the manufacturers to have a reality check. The music business does not exist anymore. So there are no longer businesses opening million dollar studios for rental. This goes for all the associated gear as well.
@thomasvopstal
@thomasvopstal Күн бұрын
I’m not sure where you’re getting your info, but it’s not what i’m seeing at all! I’m seeing people spend more money than ever on the most ridiculous gear. I don’t always agree with their choices, but there’s a market, definitely for a pair of 3 way barefoots for $2000, which is peanuts compared to competitors
@Ast3rixMusic
@Ast3rixMusic Күн бұрын
@@thomasvopstal I don’t have a beef with you personally nor your choice of monitoring. I was simply stating that the overall cost of them is not realistic regardless if they sound good or not. I agree with you much of the other gear that is suppose to provide better recording quality is overpriced. So my question is now that the business of music has ended. What is going to happen? The market for most of that gear won’t exist anymore. No one is opening million dollar recording studios anymore. It’s just us home studio people trying to make quality recordings on budgets that are not million dollar facility budgets.

The "modern" character on the L2 is my least favourite. The "transparent" sounds much better, and min of 4x oversampling is essential for heavy limiting.

How many years old is that U67, 40, 50, 60 yo? They still have parts for them, that's the biggest difference! The quality of a Neumann compared to a UA can't even be compared so, it's NOT only the sound but the Longevity factor! If you're a pro studio we can't have mics going out in the middle of a session that's why all the biggest studios use Neumann or Telefunken In their studios!

The studio setup sounds more natural and open the homestudio sounds more "hyped" and naturally compressed maybe the room acoustics suck which is typically why you'd go to a pro studio. People underestimate acoustics and tend to focus on gear. Now the U67 is also a very smooth mic and the sphere doesn't sound this way at all it doesn't sound bad but doesn't sound anything near a U67.

The dead snare, IMO, is not a great way to do this kind of compare. That aside, the WA-19 is brighter and kind of boxy. The 57 sounds more even in comparison, fuller down low.

Cool! Again a very nice studio in a nice episode. But please set your video whitebalance accordingly and don't leave it on auto. (or daylight) It's an easy fix which improves video quality 100%. Either use greycard (best) or white sheet of paper (not in full light) and lock or set AWB.

@MaraldBes
@MaraldBes 7 күн бұрын
@@thomasvopstal haha true that, I'm an really white dutchie myself as well, even the spanish sun couldn't fix my white legs. But having yellowish skin in video doesn't look too healthy either. If you want a not so super cleanish look, a stylistic choice is always a good option. But still, I would whitebalance correctly and adjust in post/editing with colour correcting to warm it up a bit, cool it down or make it pop. Maybe video is sometimes a bit the same as audio, record as pure and neutral as possible so you can tune to your liking in post :)

And here I am with my 80ies hifi speakers (40hz-20khz) that have blown cones which I fixed with silicone which actually gave them tighter low end respond. I saw a similar pair once at flee market for 15 euros, I should have bought them as extras. Been mixing with these since 1998 and I rely on them, but it sometimes bothers me a bit whether I'm missing out on spotting distortion or some minor details.
