I said this on another thread but the truth is, Alice knew not only how to stand up for herself, but she knew how to dish it out, too. Notice the clapping when she let him have it. Despite grossly erroneous portrayals to the contrary, women back then had a lot of backbone. I ought to know; I witnessed it firsthand not only among members of my family, but in the neighborhood I grew up in.
