I had iris 2 for free bc some izotope promotion. I totallly slept on it, at that moment it wasnt my thing. Now that im more into sound design and enjoying the creation of textures and weird sounds, i can see how powerful it really is. Even as a sampling tool, it can give you cool results with just some steps.

I always forget about the lfo midi tool in logic. I always end up just selecting the WRITE button and once you move anything, Logic records the animation. Then I open animation lanes and draw it precisely with the pencil. But it you are looking for precise rhythms then the midi effect is better. But if you prefer tweaking knobs, the Write, or Latch buttons will record everything. You just have to remember to change the Write or Latch commands back to Read.

Could you perhaps copy and paste portions of the score's code so others can better dissect what you're doing? Seems very interesting and is something I'd like to try for my own compositions, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do so in a straightforward manner. For example, how would I write a melodic line using this function, resulting in a 4 bar melody in Cminor? Thanks in advance.

Excellent thank you! I made a “go to marker” and I think it works because I can hear the change of position but… the play head doesn’t jump! So the play head keeps going over empty space while I hear a later region in my ears. Weird right? Bug??
@SubjectSound6 ай бұрын
Yeah probably a bug, saying that the environment is 'messy' would be an understatement. I hope for a deeper level of integration in some future update, in the last years it seemed no attention was given at all to this part of Logic.

@@SubjectSound helloo, Great video and very interesting, i have a question; When you make an event for it to jump to the next marker will the session remain in sync (will it wait untill the end of a current bar)?
@SubjectSound2 ай бұрын
@@renesoleana1414 Hey thank you for the question, I'm not entirely sure what you mean with 'in sync' since we're only talking about Logic in this case. I think you are perhaps thinking about Ableton's Launch quantization? This doesn't really apply in this case however since the playback is linear. All the event does is to jump to a marker immediately when the playhead reaches it. I still have to experiment more with the live performing features in later versions of Logic, it's on my ToDo list!
@renesoleana14142 ай бұрын
@@SubjectSound thanks for the reaction, well... i know in mainstage with "playback" plugin when you select a certain marker while playing a song it will actually wait till the bar is finished (or snap during a downbeat) therefore you can switch lets say from a verse to a bridge instead of going to a Chorus while retaining the time/tempo
@renesoleana14142 ай бұрын
@@SubjectSound I love to work with Logic because of the workflow and interface but its still missing this 1 feature that main stage does have but than again main stage doesn't have such a great work flow for handling projects of lets say 30channels like logic does

Thank you so much for your video. I'm on an old OM 2 version. I admit I spend a lot of time trying to understand how this software works... For my part, I compose music in a traditional manner, drawing upon classical and jazz harmony. From my perspective, it's clear that there's a lack of simple examples... especially considering that the creator is a jazz musician and saxophonist.

Hi David, thank you for your comment, and yes I understand what you mean! Learning Opusmodus will take some time, and you're never really done learning. It's all about exploring, expanding and building on your existing composition knowledge, which made me a much better composer over the years and excites me about all the new things I still have to learn. There have been a lot of amazing additions and improvements since version 2, maybe you can give it a try :)

@@SubjectSound Hello and thank you for your answer. You are absolutely right, I should consider trying version 3. However, moving from one computer to another with different operating systems makes the transition quite complex for me. Have you learned to use Opus Modus on your own? As I mentioned before, there is a distinct lack of simple, concrete examples. We can quickly find ourselves confronted with concepts that are far too complex.

I'm glad these kinds of tools exist for the folks like you who find them helpful (and quite glad you got out of your block) but I think this video touches on my personal issues with DAW/computer (even some hardware synth) based workflows fairly well. It can all be a bit too much of an abstraction from instruments for me to feel creatively comfortable sometimes. It seems kind of unappealing to mess with a lot of automation, set up, or what seems like musical scripting to do what we do but if it works and you enjoy it, please don't let me discourage you.
@SubjectSound8 ай бұрын
I agree with you mostly actually, especially the extraction which is absurd (playing guitar VS. programming a guitar synth..), it is the one thing which after a while became most frustrating to me about 'electronic' music. Simply having to deal with all of these systems and setups and dependencies, and things that have nothing to do with music in the first place. I've had Logic projects with hundreds of tracks that barely open and crash constantly. On the other hand, I do really want to explore, and see what else we can do as musicians to take our craft further, and to keep innovating. I found that with Opusmodus I can focus much more on the melody, harmony and rhythms, the actual ingredients of music, without having to rely on any plugins or DAW's, much more like composing on paper. And at that point I could just call it a day and have my score to play on piano, or get myself an orchestra. For this video though, since I wanted to showcase some of the possibilities, I took it, arguably, a bit too far. It's not something I often do for my own music, the fun is really in the first step, making the score. To be able to do that with functions rather than having to click around in an often unstable DAW has been the big change for me :) Thank you for your comment!

Does the roli seaboard or the MPE allows 14 bits messages? The slide and pressure messages with only the traditional 7 bits seems to be a strong constraint...
@SubjectSound2 жыл бұрын
It offers a higher resolution than 7bit, due to the usage of multiple channels per performance. So it still confirms to the MIDI standard but uses some sort of workaround, I believe this is how MPE works in general :)

Thanks for this video! It's very inspiring since I'm trying to program an operation between Logic and Vienna Ensemble Pro, which I feel need a bit of knowledge using the Transformer in Logic Environment. I'll explain to you, if I may, perhaps you can help me... So to put it simply, I'd like to select a track in my Logic session and - by sending a midi CC out of Logic - enabling/disabling the related channel in VEP (which is containing the actual instrument). In that way, I could easily load/unload only the instrument plugin I really need one by one without spending too much time searching the right channel in VEP and enabling/disabling inside of it. It's pretty much what you can watch in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/pmHJZZ6Mr9-qgpo at 19:26. He's doing that in Cubase, using a Midi Transformer. I'm wondering if I could do the same with the Logic's one. Thank you so much in advance. Take care.
@SubjectSound2 жыл бұрын
Hi Guilo, Sorry for the late reply, that's an interesting project indeed! First off I should probably redirect you to another video I have on the Transform window, but in here I actually show it in context of the environment window, it's on the channel somewhere. I think it should be possible to connect tracks in the mixer to transform objects in order to send notes when selected, however, in your case I would probably prefer doing this via TouchOSC which already comes with plenty of Logic templates (it includes the whole track selection part) and you could then use an OSC transformer (such Osculator) to transform the message into a note. Think this should be a bit more stable in your specific scenario. Hope that helps a little bit :)
@GiulioPirondiniMusic2 жыл бұрын
@@SubjectSound thanks for your time. In the meantime I've managed to get what I was aiming for. I've inserted 2 transformers (one for enabling VEPro channels, one for disabling them) in the Environment and set them to send a CC out of Logic to VEPro by playing a note of my keyboard. So ultimately I can select a track in Logic and by pressing that note, I have the relative VEPro channel (which host the actual VST) enabled/disabled. Thanks again mate, I was really inspired by you 😉
