I love this! Back in the 80s/90s when my son was growing up, this would have been a big draw for kids. I wonder if it still is.
@ramblingseattle6 күн бұрын
I was there during the day and there were a dozen really little kids, like, under 2. I came during the day so I could have a little space, lol! Last year, I came on a Friday evening and could barely get to the bar! I think it still is a very popular attraction for kids.

I'm looking forward to this one. Hope you cover the area that has the amusement park. Been many years since I've been there. Do they still have the rides?
@ramblingseattle7 күн бұрын
The amusement park is long gone. This one focuses on the Winterfest Train Village and is entirely inside the Center House, now known as The Armory. www.seattlecenter.com/explore/attractions/armory The Center is not what it once was and the whole amusement park area is now really a playground. Once the Christmas Village clears out of the lawn near the Fountain, I will do a walk around the grounds. I like to to one on New Year's Day in the aftermath of the previous night's celebrations. Look for it on January 7th!

Nothing was GF so, who knows? This is one of three places in this immediate area that get lines like this and one is a cafe (worth it for the coffee alone) and one is the Cuban sandwich place (overrated from my pre GF experience from years ago). I think locals just like their lines!

Yes, it is a great place! There are two great coffee houses, a laundromat, half-a-dozen restaurants including what may be the most touted Cuban sandwiches in the tri-county area... all within a few blocks of each other. I do love spots like this, too!

@ramblingseattle28 күн бұрын
Nope, it was the week before. I do want to get a home game for sure but scheduling is weird for me on Sundays. But for now consider this a part one of a comparative video duo with part two "to come".

@ramblingseattle even from the exterior you get a sense of how Amazing Lumen Field is and how intimidating it must be for away teams to play there
@ramblingseattle28 күн бұрын
Yeah, for sure. I mean, they are pros and won't let a loud crowd bother them but there is a reason the 12th Man idea exists. For a while Lumen held the record for loudest crowd before KC went for it. I have to say that 99% of my Lumen Field experience is for SoundersFC and Reign FC so my view is skewed.
@nathandodds25 күн бұрын
it looks like the area around the stadium offers plenty of pre match dining and drinking options too zo make the most out of the game day experience
@ramblingseattle25 күн бұрын
@nathandodds Definitely. The immediate area has a few dozen spots, and both of the adjacent neighborhoods of Pioneer Square and the International District are well up to the task of pre and post game for all ages.

The Seattle Olmsted 50 is a 31-mile (50 km) walking route that connects many of Seattle's parks, green spaces, and boulevards. The route was designed by John Charles Olmsted of the Olmsted Brothers landscape architecture firm between 1903 and 1912. The trail is divided into five 6-mile (10k) sections: Section 1: Starts at the Ballard Locks and goes to Woodland Park Zoo Section 2: Includes a mix of residential, parks, cafes, bakeries, ice cream parlors, and pubs Section 3: Includes free public bathroom access during park and business hours Section 4 North: Runs from the bathroom block at Washington Park Playfield to Leschi Village Section 4 South: Finishes at the Stan Sayres Memorial Park & Boat Launch near the east end of Genesee Park and Playfield The route is suitable for year-round urban walking and is considered easy to moderate in difficulty. The Mountaineers Seattle Urban Walk Committee and Friends of Seattle's Olmsted Parks are jointly responsible for the route.

I imagine that's right. The thing is, the house you refer to is inside it. 35 years ago my friend lived a couple of blocks away from the 19th Ave entrance and said it was fine, but back then the road was open to traffic and had streetlights, so.... Thanks!

@@ramblingseattle The neighborhood streets were pretty vacant except for the occasional jogger or dog walker. Makes you wonder what those streets were like back in the 60's, 70's and 80's when there were probably filled with lots of children and teenagers roaming about. And most houses would have probably had Halloween decorations unlike the 2 or 3 we see in your video. Maybe these same thoughts run through your mind as you ramble.
@ramblingseattle2 ай бұрын
I do wonder sometimes. I know that this neighborhood was defined by the redline era of Seattle in the 40s and 50s. In the 80s, when I went to high school, Rainier Beach was a rival school and this neighborhood was not one to be caught in. Neither was my high school's neighborhood for that matter but that was when crack was new and gangs were ascendant. Some can point to gentrification changing a lot but I don't think one can discount that it was, in a way, a growth phase that the area eventually grew out of. Gentrification tends to be the result of change and not so much the harbinger, eh? Also, to be fair, this video was shot three weeks before Halloween so I would not quite expect too many decorations out. Good observation!
