Parts in the mail, hopefully I do it right and save $382 bucks! Great video, thank you. Also for the community info, my Rheem tankless is exactly 4 years and 4 months old.

"That was my daughter screaming" then my daughter screamed outside. Ya I feel ya dad. Thanks for the video, going to get this stuff today and give it a try. The paint on our house is pretty old and needing redone but we can't repaint until later this year, and I don't want to risk pressure washing the house like I could in years past.

This video just saved me $450. I called and got two quotes before deciding to do it myself. Thank you! For me, removing the logic board was an important first step in finding the leak. With the board out of the way I could see the slow drip coming from the back of the mixing valve, and then more easily get my fat hands in there to replace it. TIP: While you have the mixing valve removed, definitely replace the o-rings too. I also applied a bit of plumber’s grease around the o-rings to help prevent leaks from those connections.

Thanks for your video. My mixing valve went out exactly 14 months after we moved into our new home. The part was covered but not the labor which I ended up paying $450! Fast forward another year and the part has failed again. I found a website where I could buy the mixing valve ($79 + shipping) so I bought it. Question: what is Rheem doing to improve these failures happening? You would think using metal instead of plastic would be better.

The logic board is held in by three Phillips head screws thru the bottom of the case. Remove the three screws, move the board out of the way, and you will have easy access to replace the valve and access the leak sensor. 👍

Terrible product. Sodium hypochlorite at a 1.25 ratio would have been more than half the price and would have been a 1 hit job.

Thanks for video. I finished under 10 minutes. Here is a few tip. Take off the plastic bracket where board is, there only 3 screws at the bottom of the unit. Put some rag or paper towels underneath when removing the mixing valve. And finally flush your hot water completely to rid of bubbles before turning back on

We used this product once before and again today. It's not bad. I do prefer a product called 30 Seconds Outdoor Cleaner to be honest. my house is brick and vinyl siding and we also use it for the concrete pathways. It just works better. This is a good alternative though.

Mold Armor is way better than 30 seconds Outdoor cleaner in my experience. Mold Armor has been my go to for all deck and house washing. The key is, dwell time. I will spray it on let it sit for a few mins (10-15 mins) then spray off....Perfect results everytime. The 30seconds outdoor product doesnt seem to have as good of a concentration as Mold Armor. Thank you for your videos. I am a Father as well and do not have time to mess around when it comes to maintaining my house projects. I need stuff to work and work well the FIRST time. Im sure you know exactly what Im talking about. Lol

Thank you for this video. I have the exact same model. Your video was super useful. Just a couple things I'll add: 1. (previously mentioned) You can remove the board with 2 phillips head screws to get a little better access 2. Our unit shut off several days ago. I found your video. Then I dried up that area and it restarted. I thought it wouldn't go off for several days. But about 24 hours later it did. So, the last few days we've been turning the unit off when not using and drying off that area each time 3. Our water heater was installed 3.5 years ago. When I called Rheem, I asked if it was under warranty. They said they would ship out a mixing valve for free by ground (5-7 days). I paid $30 extra to get it shipped overnight 4. I'm not positive if our leak was the mixing valve. But it looks like the only thing that would leak in that area. Upon visual inspection after taking the old one out, I couldn't see an obvious leak on it. But within a couple days, I should know

Great video! Helped me diagnose my moms tankless water heater. I have the same one as well, so now I will know if it happens to mine. As a fyi, there are 3 Phillips head screws along the bottom of the unit that hold the board in. You can take those out, move the board down and gain more access.

Hi Thanh! Thanks for watching and we hope the video helped. That's a great question and we will make sure to include that information in the video and description in the future. So the part number in the manual is "Component No. 9". I don't remember if when I called Rheem if they asked for the part number or if I just told them that it was the "Mixing Valve" and they knew what the part was. You can see the manual here www.tanklessking.com/index.php/mwdownloads/download/link/id/743/. Also the Rheem support phone number is 1-800-621-5622.

Thanks for this video. Very helpful. An identical version of this water heater is offered by Noritz as their model NRCP1112-DV-LP which I have had since fall 2017. The Noritz part number for the mixing valve is NPD056. I also recommend replacing the O-rings. The small one is NPD036 and the larger is NPD033. I’m not sure who really makes these units. Its easy to find these parts on the internet. My valve was $136. Disconnect power before starting work. As you can see in the video, the circuit board is in the way. The bracket that holds the board is secured by three screws that come in from the bottom. Take those out and the whole board assembly will swing forward and down, out of the way. This makes the valve replacement very easy. Of course, when you get the error 45 you have no hot water and you probably don’t have a replacement valve handy. This is very inconvenient. So here’s what I did to temporarily restore it while waiting for my new valve to arrive. On the bottom of the unit, about 3 inches from the front and centered there is a dimple extending down for the water leak detector. Any leaking water pools in the dimple and triggers the detector. I drilled a 1/8” hole in the dimple taking care not to hit the detector itself. The slow leaking from the valve dripped into a pan below and did not trip the detector, allowing hot water to operate. Yet, if a big leak started it would overwhelm the little hole and trigger the detector. Here’s another problem I encountered. Error 60 hot water abnormality. This was caused by an unusual failure of the recirculation pump. Noritz said replace the pump even though I could feel it vibrating as if it was running. I replaced the pump and all was well. I noticed on the replacement pump box a sticker with the words “new impeller”. So, I disassembled the original pump and found that all the plastic blades on the original impeller were all broken off. The impeller disk was spinning in water, but not actually pumping it. With no flow, the heat exchanger overheats and you get error 60. A temp solution for this is to turn off the recirculation modes. In summary…when the unit is working, its very nice and efficient. But, I live in a rural area and there’s no one available who knows how to service it. Plenty of people can put them in….but no service is available. So, as an engineer I learned to do it myself. This is a complex device with fans, pumps, electric valves, sensors, and a computer board that runs it all together. Plenty of stuff to fail. Mine worked perfect for three years and I’ve now had three no-hot-water failures in years 4-6. If I could roll back the clock I would put in a simple propane tank heater that I can get serviced and probably won’t need it. When I get fed up servicing this unit, that’s what I’ll do. This is a water heater for city dwellers who have support available, IMO.
