Thing to cover is growing it in a garden,…. and how the watering is done or not done through the year,… and how their appearance will be in each season,…. and how long they can be expected to live, while simultaneously not letting them go dry-shriveled dormant during the entirety of their life in the garden.

Yesterday, I pruned the side on a hundred foot long oleander hedge. By the middle of the day I was feeling funny and that evening I felt sick. We all should know that stuff is poisonous, sure but the sap got through my gloves and my coveralls. Today, the right side of my body feels numb and I still have no energy. Feeling really cold too. If you must prune a large amount of this plant, be smart and don't be like me. Get a chemical suit and rubber gloves. This illness is not fun!
@battlefoxx6 күн бұрын
oh my, I hope you get over it fast. A lot of times these are grown in public places that "invite" a lot of touching and contact, like family parks, lots of times outside of hotels along walkways. They are super easy to grow, so that's why I think businesses plant them. lucky for me none of these adverse plants I handle seem to hurt me. good luck.

Do you know how to collect the seeds? I found some near my home but can’t figure it out.
@battlefoxx6 күн бұрын
you have to be super patient. wait for the flowers to dry up, then the seed pods to dry up and turn totally brown but you need to get to them BEFORE they split open (not too early, not too late). Then you need to put them in a baggie in the fridge, and don't plant until spring. success rate is really low, but worth a try.
@battlefoxx6 күн бұрын
if the are in public areas, usually the groundskeepers trim them back before the seeds get to mature.

Great video. I have heard that Ocotillo grow best in rocky soil with lots of calcite or lime. Often when Ocotillo is found growing on a hillside it suggests underground caverns. Have you heard of this?
@battlefoxx6 күн бұрын
I am not sure about the caverns, they tend to really just grow in our deserts where it has super good draining soil. If there is a cavern underneath, I guess that might suggest some extra dryness if any surface water penetrates deep enough to be lost in the cave. Lots of these out in Carlsbad and Kartchner caverns.
