I was just about to get Math With Confidence (which also looks like a fantastic math curriculum). But then I saw this. which incorprates God and creation, which is awesome! It also looks very teacher-friendly :)

How do you think this curriculum does with mental math?
@hanleylinify Жыл бұрын
Apologia Math seems like a solid curriculum. However, being secular, I do not use this curriculum because of a constant reminder and reference to God. It would be great if they removed those, so becoming more inclusive and catering to a wider audience. So I use Singapore Math Primary 2022 which I feel like a math curriculum for everyone.

The only religious portion of this curriculum is in the introduction to each chapter. Easily skipped if that’s not for you.

Thanks for the video, it was so helpful! One additional question from me...for the Book Extras at the beginning of the book, did you ever see what all of that entailed on the website? We're currently in a review heavy curriculum, which is great...sort of. My son can't seem to focus long enough to get it all done, which is why we're considering other options. I was wondering if the Book Extras had more review, should more reinforcement be needed. Thanks again!

Is Apologia 1 equivalent with kindergarten or first grade math?
@abbykhomeschool5398 Жыл бұрын
I’d lean more first grade. But if you have a kindergartener, I’d still check it out since they might be ready. The author has said she’d like to go back and do a kindergarten level once she finishes level 6.

How long does a lesson take from start to finish with this level? We do kindergarten math with confidence but it’s teacher intensive. I dread it. I love the conversational tone that this curriculum is written in. It looks easier to teach.
@abbykhomeschool5398 Жыл бұрын
20 minutes is probably a good average. 10ish minutes for the opening activity, then another 10 or so for the lesson.

How did your year with level 4 go with your child? Did you feel there was enough practice of concepts as well as review of those new concepts throughout the year or did you need to supplement?
@abbykhomeschool5398 Жыл бұрын
Everything went great! We didn’t feel the need to supplement with anything else (other than a math facts app that she does when she’s waiting on me). It has been a consistently comprehensive program.
@chrismiller9084 Жыл бұрын
Is there enough review? About how long is new concept focused on before moving to a new topic? Thanks?
@juliemueller2257 Жыл бұрын
I'm having trouble with placement. Would you say there is ample multiplication and division review in Level 4? I loved the multiplication Battleship game you referenced in Level 3 and I think a brief brush through would be handy to have without having to start exclusively in Level 3. Level 4 seems to be the better fit. Any thoughts?
@abbykhomeschool5398 Жыл бұрын
One idea might be to purchase just the teachers guide for level 3. It would have all the games and teaching tips to review multiplication and division before jumping into level 4. Otherwise this is an excellent question for Apologia customer service. Or check out the author (Kathryn Gomes) on social media. She is great at answering questions!

What did you do the rest of the year bc there’s only 100 lessons is that right? How did you pace it out over the year? Thanks
@abbykhomeschool5398 Жыл бұрын
At that age we were doing our core subjects 4 times a week (Friday was our fun day), so it worked out nicely for us. Keep in mind too that lessons does not have to equal days. Some lessons may take more than one day for a child to master, some days a child may fly through more than one lesson. And for reporting, there is no school in the world that does exactly 180 lessons of every subject, so you shouldn't feel like you have to either. Field trips, project days, real world experiences, it all counts!

Thanks for the great video! Just wondering if you think the teachers guide is sufficient enough in giving information to teaching lessons? When looking at the flip-throigh, the lesson information for the teachers guide looks quite short, so just wondering if you found it to be enough when teaching? Thanks so much!!
@abbykhomeschool5398 Жыл бұрын
Great question! Yes, I feel like the teachers guide is more than enough. The lessons in the workbook are written to the student, so that is where the majority of the instruction comes from. The teachers guide just adds the extra guidance and information that may be needed.
