I remember the clean up when they were building the new Silly Hall and getting ready for the Olympics in 1988. The controversy about the old Burns Building, directly across the street. The town wanted to tear it down, however people protested to save its heritage, design. By 1981 it was vacant, run down. full of pidgeons. It would cost millions back in 1981 dollars to save it. People said it was just a place for bars, drunks and hookers. Finally the province declared it a historical site, it was completely renovated at what today would be a tiny amount. Back then people didn't think it was worth it. Now its a beautiful building from the 1900's. Had the old elevator in it, had to have an operator to work it. Its directly across from Olympic Plaza, next the Jack Singer Hall. Now no one thinks of how much it cost then. Glad they saved it. Beautiful white building on the corner.

I moved to Calgary in 1978. 540k then. Beddington was the end of the town, Deerfoot went only as far as blackfoot trail. I was 17 when I moved here from Ontarible. 'SORRY'...I was 17. I was waiting for my brother to pick me up in front of the Calgary Tower. I was standing outside of it marveling at how big the town was, the buildings were at least 15 stories high, lol. I saw a yellow cab cuttnig off some guy on a moped. As the moped rolled by the cab I heard the old guy yell at the cabby, 'COCKSUCKER'....I thought man...what a cool town. lol. I moved to vancouver in 1989 for 11 years, came back to Cowtown, didn't recognize the place, finally left in 2002... for Airdrie, which in 1979 had its main street was a gravel road. Now live in Bowden. to think. I use to live in Vancouver, I had a great life on the coast. If you told me that one day I would be living in Bowden, I figure I'd be in the Penniteniary.
