It settled nice and smooth when those ground effects grabbed hold. It was nice to see American Lake from above, my fishing hole actually.

That's pretty cool we used to get chased off for running the track or riding our dirt bikes on the other end of the runway back in the day when it was Fort Lewis and McCord and all the tank trails off of military road

I knew it because my friend (the one flying with me here) saw something on facebook about McChord low passes, then I gave McChord tower a call and they confirmed. Amazing feeling there, flying amongst C17s on the tarmac, and there was actually one C17 taking off, as you can see.

Too much talking. It distracts the student. All my instructors were mostly quiet, calm and let me make my own mistakes within reason and would ask me what i did right or wrong after. You learn faster that way.

Emily, my bad. She removed the terrain features, which adds more difficulty to my orientation in flight. I didn't know she did, lol. I wanted to reinstate it, and she (in other words) told me to shut up and fly the airplane. 😉

Agreed, basic instrument flight should be tought........but truthfully that's a slippery slop,the knowledge could easily save them but it also could give people a false sense of safety 😢......i used to go out of my way when ifr was possible. Yet others were always pushing the boundaries and a. Few paid with their lives 😢

Glad you asked! Ground effect is the increased lift and reduced drag an aircraft experiences when flying close to the ground. I was flying over the runway at a few feet from it the whole length. I was kinda floating over the runway.
