This is the best martial art because in every move of your limbs are all defence and offence but the are all effective.not for tournament.

I remember Bob showing this, specifically the elbows at a martial arts camp near Rainbow Falls ( North of Woodland Park CO ) back in 2000. It was a great weekend there.

Bob Orlando really breaks it down on the how and why. I enjoy the art because you don't have to be a "black belt" for it to be used in a self defense situation. In real life, I was fortunate to meet him a few times. He was explosively quick in movements. Surprisingly fast. Even in this video some of his movements are too fast for the camera.
@brianriggs284418 күн бұрын
Okay. Maybe it was Part 1. He moved fast enough the camera stuttered.

This series resembles Shotokan Kanku Dai in a lot of ways. I have studied Karate my whole life, but in the last few years have been studying Kuntao from a very-long-ago-student of Bill Reeders. I recently found your channel and have been really enjoying the similarities in the types of Kuntao but also the many ways that the movements resemble the movements in Karate kata. How the movements are described in Kuntao definitely resonate more with me than what many are taught in Shotokan karate. Check out Naihanchi/Tekki kata sometime and see the similarities, view it from the perspective lens of Kuntao. It is fascinating! thank you for the wealth of knowledge you are passing on.

Right said, Sir, Two handed blocks are more efficient then single handed ones. Late YOsihimi also maintained it. You are also right in saying that can´t olock for ever! But, with all respect to you, Sir, a beginner can never do it. He or she, after a successful block should try to throw a towel on the attacker´s hand and get him out of balance, and, run away ASAP. Advanced applications fwork only for advanced practitioners. Best regards. Pal 68, admirer of Pentjak Silat
@mercurykuntao7 ай бұрын
You right, If you can run you should. You may not have time to block with two hands. Block left is quicker,

Understanding that you have never seen these moves in fights is a sure way to know they are unrealistic. Dont be fooled by theatrics. Train with reputable fighters, not bullshito masters.

The first two moves of Jumping Monkey seem reasonable. The thing where you throw her arm down, maybe that too. But I don't see what stops her from fighting with her other arm, or why she has to spin her body that far with it and then stop there. It also looks like it takes some real time to jump behind her, and in that time she could do almost anything to avoid being hit. Duck, step away, anything but stand still. Can you explain how you have the time to pull that off if she's non-compliant?
@mercurykuntao9 ай бұрын
You make some good points but understand that the techniques are just training tools to learn principles of movement nothing more. You will not perform the exact movement in application. You will need to adjust to how your opponent re-acts.

Ron, I've been a subscriber of yours for a long time. Bob and I were very close. I was his Uke in his 2004 Black Belt magazine article and his first Uke in his Reflex Action video. I am 70 and I still do 31 forms a day, every single day. I do an extended "Little Idea" form which I blend with a Kenpo form and I always do Chow Kuen. My basics include several Kilap Hands drills and his knife drill. I want to thank you for keeping his art alive. You do him a great honor. When I begin Chow Kuen, I always say "Good morning Bob"

Mr. Smallwood I remember you in one of sifu Bob's (what I always called Bob Orlando) videos when you all did the 5 Swords Drill. Like you I am also a Kenpo Black Belt - (4th Degree under sifu Rick Fowler Dallas, Texas area). Mr. Ron is doing a great job preserving and promoting sifu Bob's legacy. I am 65 and practice basics and techniques from Kenpo/Escrima/Kuntao-Silat/Muy Thai, etc, daily. Being retired has its benefits...:) <Kenpo salute>. Frank "pancho" Garza

What is the relationship between kuntao and silat ? Arent they two different things ?
@mercurykuntao11 ай бұрын
Sorry I've been out of town. The difference between Kuntao and Silat can be summarized in Kuntao has its roots in China and Silat came from Indonesian. The predominant principle of Kuntao is attack ,attack ,attack( hit him, hit hard, then hit him again) The predominant principle of Silat is position, position, position, While I have seen Silat without Kunato I have not seen Kuntao taught without Silat
