Wait so you are gonna tell me the destruction of Pompeii was really just some dude, who Zues turned into a volcano, spewing his hot load all over his girlfriend, who Zues turned into a city? 😂😂🎉🎉😂😂😅😅😮😢😢 All those poor people cover in valcano jizz./ This would probably never happen today but, I would take the King Solomon route and hope that I came across two women fighting over a baby. Cause after I help them out maybe they would give me the ability to change into a human./ 21:18 No! No! Don't you make us fight Antlion Nightmares. That's not cool man./ Umm I don't know why you would think I haven't in real life seen a woman with two man size turkeys dragging a giant box, but I have. Well, it wasn't so much a box it was more like a pallet, and it weren't two man side turkeys they were two big ol dogs, and instead of a lady it was my drunk uncle standing on the pallet holding a stick with a dog treat tied to the end of it while the dogs pulled him around the yard and he sang Christmas songs. Man that was a fun 4th of July./ No! Don't you sic Turkey Dragons on us./ Good stories this week bro.

I really like the story of "Gustav" and Serena. I actually have a real life event that was pretty close to that. So as a dare I decide to wear a kilt to an Irish pub, the Irish lads were not amused, after about 3 pints I hear a voice from behind me say give me what's under that skirt if you want to get out of here safely. Of course I was like "Pfft sure take it." I had like 2 more pints then went to piss but when I got to the pisser I started to feel a little woozy. I woke in a dark, dank cage. A very tall lady whose face I couldn't see told me that if I did what I was told I would be free to go in a couple hours. I didn't really have a choice so I said sure. First she said something about putting the lotion on it's skin, then she wanted me to squish different things with my feet. She had me try to catch hotdogs she was throwing with my mouth. You know just a bunch of weird stuff. Then she made me this really funny tasting drink and I got really sleepy. Next thing I know I wake up outside the bar, it's daytime, and my ass is really sore. What's even stranger is the only thing I really remember about the lady is that she had the biggest most callused hands I've ever seen on a lady, and the largest Adam's Apple.

But still not a fish ; 7:09 what is it with Our Ancestors and forcing magical beings that turn into animals to marry them? No, seriously, it appears to be a universal thing that happens in every culture in every region of every continent and it confuses the heck out of me, WHY IS THIS A THING? ; 7:19 One, only a little creepy? Also, wait, you don't think it'd be creepy if someone forced a dude to marry them? ; 8:02 I dunno, I believe some seals have some fairly unsavory mating habits ; 8:06 I'm going to be honest, I am not seeing how there's a practical difference between these guys and selkies; 8:15 Ah. Hence the chimney; 9:11 Surprised the story just stops there and doesn't have the guys experience some sort of comeuppance trying to get at the jewels and gold; 9:16 Why? 9:20, Oh, good ; Ok I am going to stope here...ye gods, I'm less then a third of the way through.

3:05 wait but what if you are starving to death and she throws the fish on your boat? Does that mean you get to live for a while but you will eventually die? What if she threw it towards your boat with every intention of making it onto the boat but it goes long or short....do you still die or do you get to live because Ariel throws like a girl? 11:02 So basically what I've learned from watching your videos about mermaids is that to be successful in ancient times I needed to either sneak up and kidnap/swipe fish parts or go straight up Enter the Dragon on them. 13:22 her merman husband obviously likes fish.

0:22 I wonder why? ; 00:34 I really wish I could remember the title and author of that one story about a women's swimming team that recruits a mermaid as a ringer, since this is one of the points brought up in it! ; 1:08 Huh, I didn't know that. TIL! ; 2:47 Seconding ; 3:43 Huh, a specific fish, that's a tad unusual, i think, unless I missed something; 4:17 Rude. (the Kataw, I mean) 4:50 Well, Sirens eat the folks they kill, yeah? You don't mention these folks doing it, so i guess they're just do it for the evulz? ; 5:08 Ok, now I need to ask why the pic is of the Gillman, since the Black Lagoon is in Brazil ; 5:27 and that answers that question. 5:31 I'm starting to sense a theme here ; 5:50 Bunch assholes ; 5:55 OK, they're better than the Kataw then. ; 6:23 want to compare to dolphins, who famously are known to rescue drowning sailors, and also infamously are known to do...horrible things? ; 6:39 Ah-hah! So you admit serpent is not mermaid. Victory is mine! ; 6:49 ooh, that's backwards.7:03 that is very different. Also, I am not quite sure what to say, but it involves some combination of the following keywords: Stranger Danger, Grooming, Double Standards, Someone's Fantasy; 7:07 I agree completely. 7:42 Kidnapping CHILDREN, as well. Needs to be emphasized ; 8:07 as a sidenote, I want to let you know I appreciate how difficult it must have been throughout this series to realize that you can't find art of a significant number of these that isn't horny on main, and also salute you for not commenting on this; 8:33 Magindaras (sp?) (dunno if I'm messing up the singular/plural here), maybe take some notes? ; 8:49 remembering the story of Urashima Taro, and you saying it's bittersweet, I am nervous now ; 8:58 Gift of the Magi, mermaid edition, I suppose ; 9:00 Well, that's a decision that will probably turn out poorly ; 9:28 Well, that's better than I was afraid of ; 10:00 Oh, good ; 10:18 oh no. ; 11:13 Oh no ; 11:21 Boy, that escalated quickly. Hello! I've just come across your review and this discussion about the biology of Eden, which I very much enjoyed. It's unfortunate that, as you acknowledged, neither of the biologists in the discussion had an opportunity to read the book. It sounds like the summary you passed along was reasonably thorough, but some of the points they raised are, in fact, specifically addressed in the story, so I'm presuming they didn't make it to your summary. In any case, I'd love to hear their thoughts once they've had a chance to read it for themselves. They act like dogs, or people, they check the bait 3 times before biting it, get annoyed and scratch their backs on the reef, drive off the smaller ones by snapping at them, and you can only catch one per achool because they just know. Very intelligent. They also are easy to watch because the water is clear

I'm still waiting on my favorite merfolk lore of the Bouh Thay who were said to have the upper body and lower extremities of a fish, the the midsection of a human. 9:25 So basically their version of the Church of Scientology? 19:17 I think you get a lot of the similar themes in the story to to the cultural diffusion that you talked about last video. As far as the kidnapping goes...I mean every culture has the story they tell the little boys and girls to scare them away from doing dangerous things. In South Carolina it was the Lizard Man. Same thing with the "relations" stuff. How do you keep the uneducated from multiplying like bunnies? Find a way to demonize what causes the reproduction. A lot of the stories are never meant to be taken literally.

Why is that elephant wearing shoes?

Because it was drawn by a medieval artist who had never seen an elephant before and was going off of a second-hand description.

1:55/8:05 I'll remind you in the first video I specifically said it didn't have to be a fish-human hybrid to count as a mermaid, it had to be aquatic and have a hybrid form. 3:35 was supposed to be memetic yes. 7:40 the book was published in 1907

Very interesting this week. It does lead one to wonder if they did come up with these stories on their own or if they were influenced by other cultures. Either way keep up the good work. 👍

3:33 I can totally get behind this concept of cultural diffusion. I mean if we are being honest with ourselves that is how most religions were invented. (No offense meant to anyone) 11:09 got so beware of suspicious sandwiches floating in the middle of the lake.
