Thanks, very useful video. My planer somehow lost its calibration when I replaced the blades. I thought I had purchased the wrong blades when I gave it a test run as It began to rip the timber even on the zero setting.

Wow, thank you. I bought one of these a couple of years ago and I haven’t used it much because of this problem. I assumed it was designed that way and was just for crude carpentry. I had searched and about it and couldn’t find anything, thanks for making the video! Kind of BS that DeWalt didn’t have this in the instructions.

Huge thanks for this! Mine was bad from new, just assumed it was bad design abstract finding nothing online and nothing in the documentation. Like other commenter, is much easier to get the top off by tapping with a screwdriver at an angle. 👍

Thanks for the video. Mine was also terribly calibrated. A tip to remove adjustment cap. Use a vice with wood to secure, then use channel locks and the screw driver. Much easier to get off, and won't damage it as much if you are careful.

Using a screwdriver to wedge the top off can leave quite a mess. Use the screwdriver at an angle and gently tap it with a hammer, the top will pop up without too much cosmetic damage.

Thanks so much for making this video. Mine was perfect out of the box but that only lasted a month or so. Can’t believe DeWalt would make it possible to adjust it but not tell anyone how to do it, well done.

I just checked mine, the infeed and outfeed plates are pretty much spot on. But it still takes a massive cut even at the 0 setting. I put a ruler over the cutter head and rotated it and it’s dragging the ruler a full 1/2”

Thank you! Solved the problem I was having no matter how much I played with the jig and blade carrier I couldn't get a 'zero' cut. All sorted now. If you do this adjustment take your time splitting the cap on the knob to avoid too much damage. I managed it with only a few tiny marks on the soft plastic. I wish DeWalt would design this with easier access?

Sent my first one back after it hauled it's blades out, and would have gone for just a refund if I had not had the battery already for their drill. They must have sent out thousands of them all wrong. So glad you spotted that spot to get your screwdriver started. Big thank you from Scotland.

That's not the way to adjust the blades to 0.. if undo the 3 screws that hold the blades, take them right out inside there is the blade holder where u adjust them there

@@richardhorsham7395 in the jigs defense. It is only really supposed to be used to align/level the back plate. The front plate is independent, which is why we need to do this as well sometimes

I'm guess I'm just stupid enough to potentially break a brand new tool in order to make it better. I had an idea of how it would work had I designed it, saw the little pry tab. It made sense so I went for it. Glad it helped somebody out! I posted the video because I couldn't find any documentation of it either.

Another update, I reached out to Mytee, they worked with me to get a replacement out at a heavily discounted price. The new version is even better then the first. More powerful, more stable, the gun is better quality and the hose is longer. Only complaint I have is some of my attachments don't work with the new gun.

If you are only doing one car and/or it doesn't have a lot of tight places I'd honestly just stick with standard buffer with ~5in pads. You'll be able to get close enough to the edges to not notice a real difference and it will make it go faster. If you want to go the extra mile, it's great for intricate work. I haven't had any issues with it reliability wise but I only detail on the side. I'm not using it day in and day out. Hope that helps!
