John Dowling, was it good friend of mine . He is the person who developed back sticking and use for the first time around 1960 with the Air Force drum quartet. May he rest in peace he was very few, Road events throughout their routine. They're all about, arms, flaring in the air, speed, it's more about visual than actual real drumming with real rudiments. The art of rudimental drummer no longer exists in my opinion. Look at some of the old Fife and Drum c o r p s, that are still in existence today, you will see many rudiments used, with great execution . The judges today do not look for, exposure to error or difficulty. They focus on the visuals John Dowling would be rolling over in his grave can you use the only person in the United States ever to receive, 4 national championships in the single day. First place, individual solo soprano, first place, brass quartet, first place individual, snare drum, first place, drum quartet he is in the Drum Corps Hall of Fame, toward many of the top drum and bugle c o r p s . He made an album and a book, Fleetwood recordings, where he broke down rudiments, included drum solos, it was a educational recording. He also arranged music for horn lines including the reading Connor Buccaneers from Reading Pennsylvania . Drummond instructor for the Riley Raiders , as well as many other drum and bugle course, it was a great man and a great drummer❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I like Jeff Queen and use some of his teaching methods. But dude needs to learn a new snare solo and stop reliving the glory days.

I love the thought of the two drums, and one being a more traditional with the Mylar head.... but holy shit that Mylar head makes the drum sound like garbage. At least in my 35 year old opinion. I started on Remo drums with Mylar heads in middle school and was so hyped when I got to high school and played on Yamaha sfz’s with Kevlar heads. I just think Mylar sounds tubby and metallic both at the same time. I’ll be a high tension guy forever.

Anyone remember the episode of FRIENDS where Ross played the keyboard? He did a sort of head movement when he did accented notes. Jeff does that same thing when he slowly moves from Drum to drum. His way of over emphasizing i guess. Ha! 😁

Reasons why Kevlar: playing on Mylar sounds like a kickball being bounced off of a brick wall

Cole Edelstein Bro...you must not play on mylar...thats a crappy sounding mylar...infact the snare mechanism is not working properly.
@shawnselwa11365 жыл бұрын
@@brianhead1907 I'm fairly sure some of the solo is with the snares off. I have the book by him and it has to solo in it. I could be wrong, but I remember it somewhat.
@randyduncan40045 жыл бұрын
but kevlar sounds like hes playing on a table top or the floor. i dont care for either sound but solo was TERRIFIC!! BRING BACK the Field Snare!!
@elilovestrainsplanesmore11014 жыл бұрын
Im pretty sure pipe snares use kevlar, not marching snares.
@gavin_bigred2 жыл бұрын
Its cause he has a Kevlar bottom head. Mylar always sounds best imo with both heads being mylar and not a mixture.
