So does Scarlett do 120fps at 4K? Did quite understand what you meant. I would like to shoot some Action Chase Getaway scenes. On fence between Used Scarlet vs new Komodo.
@Alexlohrum
@Alexlohrum 11 ай бұрын
yes the Scarlet does 4k 120 where the komodo does 2k 120. I think either would be great for that. when you say new komodo, are you referring to the komodo x?

Try a KMZ one man. Massive fluctuation in quality over the years where they used different formulas in different factories, some are absolute crap. I've got an early silver KMZ and it is tac sharp with plenty contrast and is superior over my modern Sigma (imo, character is obvs so subjective). Hey great video! I got one of those and I’ve been using it a lot as a “look lens” if that makes sense. The non rehoused version is kind of a pain to use on set. I have a sorta unrelated question : How are you liking the sigmas? Been thinking about getting both lenses for cleaner looks… but the breathing on the 50-100 is making me doubt the purchase 😅
@Alexlohrum
@Alexlohrum Жыл бұрын
I love the sigmas. super sharp and overall just love how versatile the zooms are while still having a fast aputure. I have nothing bad to say really beside the 50-100 breathing. surprisingly I haven't really had an issue with the productions I've been on. obviously would like if it didn't breath so much. for me the pros of the lens set out weigh the breathing on that lens.

@@Alexlohrum You didn't understand my comment. Allow me to explain. The lighting you use in something like this will be interpreted by someone who knows how to light. You are using youtube as a platform. KZbin is mostly lit by experimentation leading to two large softbox fill lights left and right, used as key, because youtubers do not know how to light. The second step to this classic lighting is youtubers that want to be do something different but still don't know about lighting. These use the lighting this video uses. This lighting will impress the ignorant but it will turn off anyone who knows the basics. This is the lighting people who sell "cinematography" classes to youtubers use. First, this type of lighting is a modern cliche and not even a classic like the standard youtube lighting. Using a cliche is not a good sign. Second, it does not fit the content of the scene. It is way too dramatic. In lighting this is a crime because it it style over content. Third, it hides the face while offering nothing in return. Exposure is not an afterthought and there should always be a justification for not achieving in on a face. Fourth, it used the color contrast cliche. Anything will be interpreted. If you had used three point hard light, something only 5% know how to achieve, I would think you are showing off since this is only youtube, but hey, you probably have a few lensed lights around and know how to use them. If you had a pattern projected to the background or even some simple cutting, I would think you are too classic, but this is sometimes a good thing in interviews, corporate, etc. It would also demonstrate you probably know how to use a lensed light for projection and follow the TV series tradition of symbolizing time of day using colored light and projected patterns. If you used whatever light was in the room, that would also be interpreted, and not always in a bad way. I expect a cinematographer to know how to approach light in all situations and respect the principles.

Alex, I have been using the 1DX2 daily for almost 6 years now as a hybrid user. At the time it was the only pro body that nailed focus in both photo and video - I use it for commercial work, nature and documentary work as well as YT and podcasting. The 4K video files are indeed large, but that is because of the very high bitrate… which explains the high quality of the older MJPEG codec. And the 4K colours are so good out of camera at both 23.976 and 59.98 that colour grading is easy. For glass I have 16-35, 85 and 100-400 all EF L, which are as robust and weatherproof as the 1DX2. As for monitoring, I use the wireless Canon WFT-E8E and a 12.9” M1 iPad Pro with Adam Wilt’s amazing ‘Field Monitor’ app. Whilst I keep watching YT reviews of the Red Scarlett & Komodo, as well as Ursa Mini 12 K as a potential step up for video, I have yet to identify a hybrid camera that I would prefer for my photography projects. It is definitely a classic… no wonder you miss it!

@Alexlohrum

Sadly I did sell it. I really wasn't planning on it but in the last few months I've been working with the RED Monstro and Gemini and was really blown away with those sensors. I decided that after a year with the dragon that It would be a good time to upgrade. along with the upgrade I also saw it as a financial gain as I can rent it for more money and get it on more projects. A lot of production where I live are using alexa mini's, gemini, mini lf, and raptors so my dragon wasn't really in the picture. still a great camera and I plan on making a video on why I love the dragon still and why it may still be a good buy.

Bro, after watching all of your content with the scarlet W I caved in and bought myself a Scarlet W. I do have one question though. How do you find the rolling shutter? Can you do fast-ish whippy pan stuff with it? I have the opportunity to get the "motion mount" which turns it into a global shutter and am wondering if I really need it or whether I've just been too much brainwashed by the "komodo global shutter beautiful movement" hype?

Great video…in my opinion, you are exactly on point , this camera is a photography camera, not a video.. 20mp is more than enough even for large prints. Be careful with the new mirrorless cameras, the tilt screens are more likely yo break, the batteries will not last as long and the colors are not always the best..thanks for the great video and one other thing, the mark ii will still last you antihero 5 years or more ….less things to break…t

@@Alexlohrum see the problem I see with the R5 is it’s a lot of money and I think the technology is just not perfected yet. The tilt screen is great, but I have had tilt screen cameras in the past, they break….it’s a risk…the battery life I heard is not all that great….but I am not trashing it. To me it’s just not for me…if you understand….I just think the longevity is less…the R1 is scheduled to come out soon, I have heard but not sure, it will be around 8k…I don’t know….anyway….enjoy both of your cameras….I just bought the mark ii new for 3k, that’s plenty for me
