Thank you for taking the time to make this video and share your knowledge! Thankfully, I've never seen the poison sumac, but like you said, the clusters don't even look anything like staghorn or smooth sumac. I learned about this nearly a decade ago. I didn't know about its anticancer benefits, but I did know that it's anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory properties and vitamin C, antioxidants other known benefits that are yet to be discovered 😂 This stuff is a very pleasant, refreshing, nutritious and cheap drink. I have heard that when you use heat, the water extracts more tannins and that the longer you allow the room temperature infusion, the more tannins leach into the water. I've recently begun to only do 1-4 hour infusions and have found that there hardly anything left to the berries after a couple of hours. Do you freeze or dehydrate the seeds for storage?
@goingoffgridatgreenshireho435
@goingoffgridatgreenshireho435 17 күн бұрын
I dry the sumac and freeze elderberries. Sumac grows abundantly on my property so I harvest a lot of fresh clusters, but the ones I store, I dry. Eating "clean" is rare now a days with all the prepackaged and "fast food" people are used to. Foraging free makes fresh food that much more appealing!

Sorry we had severe storms leaving me without internet last night and today. During the time we were grid tied we averaged 31KWh a day, but that included what we sent to the grid...so maxed out with no waste. Off grid we are averaging about 19KWh a day because we don't have the grid or any other "dump load" to send the extra power to. Since April 17, 2024, we have produced 2200KHw through the Sol-Ark, so I think the math on that is close to my figures. Hope this answers your question well.

How many kWh of energy do you consume each day? What is the SOC of the batteries in the morning before the solar starts kicking in?
@goingoffgridatgreenshireho435
@goingoffgridatgreenshireho435 Ай бұрын
On an average , no A/C day, we use about 15-20kw a day. With the A/C running we use about 30kw. When we were grid tied we used less power, sending more to the grid to increase our credits. Now we use more power because any solar we don't use is waisted, so we are not as careful off-grid as we were grid-tide. A/C on, the SOC is 75%ish in the morning. No A/C 85%ish in the morning.

Ultimately I decided on Sol-Ark because of its power, ease of installation, and ability to grid tie seamlessly. If I die, my wife will go back to grid-tied and with 5 minutes of programming the Sol-Ark will sell power back so she can have this system in place with no power bills but the meter fee.

I've found it's makes more sense to me to use & store my extra solar power than to sell it back to the power company. I increased my battery bank. I added an electric hot water heater that feeds my propane water heater . I purchased an ecoflow Delta Pro to put some of my excess solar power in, and I charge my Ford lightning with my excess solar. As far as air conditioning, I use split inverter units. They have built-in soft starts, and instead of the compressor starting and stopping, it just slows down and speeds up as needed . If I get several really cloudy days I connect my home to the 240 volt 7200 watt inverter that's in the bed of my truck. When it's fully charged I have 131 kwh of power from my trucks battery.

So in 2 hours I can raise the state of charge 20% with 2 gallons of propane. I won't use it often but when I need it, it works well. They run about $400 at Signature Solar.

Simpliphi was actually my first choice 3 years ago. They are excellent batteries but the Sol-Ark pairs very well with EG4 as well. The rack system of EG4 with the bus bars makes for a very clean system that distributes current extremely well. It was a pain staking, gut wrenching decision process...my poor wife!! EG4 just seemed to be a good fit for me and I wanted the Chargeverter which I knew would pair well with their batteries. Free shipping and the sale Signature Solar was promoting was the final straw. Good luck sir, but either way, you win!

EG4 batteries are not on Sol-Ark’s compatibility list. Consequently, you do not get a UL9540 listing or 9540A. The AHJ, if you permit the installation, will not approve your install. Your insurance company may have an issue also!

Thank you for the info....this is the kind of thing, that if not pointed out, could become a problem for some people. In speaking to Sol-Ark Tech, they advise that since EG4 batteries are UL9540 listed, the combination should not be an issue. Sol-Ark said the reason EG4 is not on their compatibility list is because EG4 has not submitted the forms to do so. They further said, that is probably because there are so many EG4 / Sol-Ark combinations across the country, even in areas requiring a permit for installation, that EG4 just isn't concerned about it. I know my system is working great and my batteries and Sol-Ark communicate very well. There is no "Authority Having Jurisdiction" where I live, so I'm not concerned with that.

Excellent! Some Midwest counties require two tanks, one with an aerator.

I don't know, that may be the SD card. My computer has very limited data so I can't down load or edit the videos. I shoot em and give the SD card to a friend and he loads em for me.

Important to note it breaks fevers. Medicinally, Henbit is best used internally as a tea. It is anti-rheumatic and anti-inflammatory, so it's great for relieving chronic pain, soreness, and stiffness. As a diaphoretic and febrifuge, it's great for breaking fevers and alleviating their unpleasantness

I like your style. Totally agree, we waste too much water. On the subject of plant fertilizer, have you considered breaking down your eggshells with vinegar to make a calcium rich liquid to add to the garden? I have neutralized a couple gallons of vinegar with enough egg shells that it is a neutral calcium rich concentrate fluid that is garden ready. just thought I would share. we have 30+ hens, so we have plenty of egg shells to work with.

Excellent advise. My wife makes a few kinds of vinegar and we compost the egg shells. I will try addding shells to the vinegar and give that a try.

It grows plentifully in fall and late spring in most of the country. By end of May in USDA planting zones 4 and south it is usually starting to yellow. It does not like hot weather. Gather it early for fresh eating and to preserve by drying.
