I was taking a group of hikers through a 5-day, 45km trail. One guy rocked up with a large packet of potato crisps and a pillow. I kid you not.

Lots of people, that are wanted by the law, tend us the Appalachian Trail to evade capture. This is common knowledge, at least for people that live not too far from the trail. I remember hearing about those two women that were murdered in their tent on the trail. It was not too far from Rt. 23 near Culvers Lake, N.J.. The trail is not safe to go on your own, with lots of really bad people passing through. You should always travel with a good-sized group of people you trust.

The real danger is...the Appalachian Trail. You're welcome.

The main thing to worry about are the bears. I always carry a whistle and pepper spray. Look for bear scat along the trail. If you;re not sure pick it up and examine it. If it smells like pepper spray and has a whistle in it then you can be sure that it is bear scat.🤗

I see people all the time and they dont see me. I have heard some strange conversation. I mind my business and let them pass. Hikers are always here in town pay big money for a ride as far as you can get them. Where they want to be. Once a couple gave me 500 bucks for an 50 mile ride. They were being followed for 15 mes they say lol.

Even experienced hikers can get lost. However it’s a shame that some people are so ill prepared for such a long remote trek. Remember we do have small GPS units available today, that also have emergency beacons.

I think it is time to stop talking about the highway of tears and do something about it! THE POWERS TO BE NEED TO GET TOGETHER WITH THR FIRST NSTIONS BANDS ALONG THE HIGHWAY AND OFFER A REWARD TO CATCH THE PERPETRATOR(S). SOMEONE WILL TALK!! If the Scott family can offer a substantial reward for information about their loved one, there is no reason why the nations cant offer a similar reward!!!

I live near Monson, Maine, which is where the 100-mile wilderness begins. Each year, you can set your watch by when the through-hikers show up here -- or what they call, "The Bubble." I have hiked the AT in Massachusetts, Maine, and the entire Georgia section. And all l I can say is, I met some fascinating "characters" in my month or so on the trail. Let's just say, I wouldn't hike the trail today without some form of protection.

If I were to ever hike the trail, I would do it with my Belgian malinois. Good luck sneaking up on me with him close by. And good luck with whatever you might have planned

the brief terror i felt when you mentioned the Priest, i have hiked that trail and many around it countless times by myself as a small framed woman. i learned in jefferson ntl to always turn back if you feel anything wrong. ive wasted many drives bc i got a bad omen and insisted on going home immediately

Me and a few mates hiked in Scotland where you can do wild camping basically anywhere in the country. I brought my dog along. There was one night he was staring into the woods bearing his teeth for a good hour or so. That day we met a really creepy older dude. I don't think we were particularly worried as they were the 3 of us + the dog. But be careful when trekking as some one has said, youre vulnerable in the middle of nowhere
