How quickly time flies.... Thank you for this wonderful retrospective. The good old Reese bass has accompanied me for many years. I listen different kinds/styles/genres of music - from ancient (Hellenistic, Babylonian) to modern academic music and from classical ambient to Japanese Harsh Noise. But in all this mass of wonderful sounds there are some that occupy a special place. Reese is one of them.

I began using a CZ-101 in about 1989. I bought mine at a pawn shop here in Pontiac Michigan for $75, in excellent condition. I've used so much other gear since then, but will never sell my 101. I used it to death, about 6 years, and wore the printing, and finish off, from touching it so many times. Shamefully, she needs work in a couple areas, and doesn't function atm. I'm considering leaving her alone, but buying a nice condition working 101, and using a Korg SQ-1 to sequence her, live. 😎

It's not from the Casio CZ range it is from the Roland MKS-50 it's a preset on it that you can recreate on the Alpha - Juno 1 or 2 they are essentially the same synth engine but each had different presets. You sample the patch into the Akai s-950 lower it and mix it with the basic test tone that is on the s-950. That is how a lot of the early Jungle producers got their sub-bass (Watch your speakers!)
@naws_music19 күн бұрын
Are you sure?? My research from a few sources suggested it was the CZ5000. Where did you here is was the Roland ? I’m genuinely curious. I’m not disagreeing, just really curious

@notsure11352 ай бұрын
@@Illiyinmusicvital is the unofficial Serum v.2 made for free.
@burkeschuster48792 ай бұрын
@@Illiyinmusic I haven't used Vital much since I am so comfortable with Serum and had it already before Vital came out. But does Vital have as many filters as Serum? I find that one of the overlooked aspects of Serum is the large variety of interesting filters, including ones like the French LP, Scream LP, and so on, as well as Ring Mod, SampHold, and so on. It also has some more gradual LP filters than most, which are sometimes useful, with 6dB slope modes. It also has a very useful wavetable editor. I don't know how Vital's filters or wavetable editor compare. If I remember right, they are somewhat lacking by comparison. I was just checking Vital out and it's surprising how many good features it has. I see some improvements over Serum in some areas. I guess, for most people now that such a good free synth is available, it doesn't make as much sense to drop $189 on Serum.
@naws_music2 ай бұрын
I think I might make a compare and contrast video between vital and serum ? Would that be interesting? Let us know any other questions you would like answering - cheers
@naws_music2 ай бұрын
I think you are right. You can get it rent to own via splice which is effectively interest free credit. It was the first plugin I ever bough. I wonder whether they will bring out a big update at some point? As for Valhalla stuff - they do seem to be pretty reasonable priced as standard. The Valhalla supermassive plugin is free and really cool
