Replaced the switch and the new one only lasted 6 hours into the next smoke. I said fuck it and hot wired it. I really don't care if the fan doesn't shut off when I open the lid to add more charcoal or wood.

Just saved my life… same thing happened to me in the middle of a cook. My advise. Get a low volt switch from Home Depot and mount it to the outside of the housing so you just manually do the door open deal or not. My connectors clearly were getting too hot next to the chimney which is what caused my switch connections to fail rather than the switch itself.

Second time replacing the switch. The switch only last a year or two. Ok, fine, char-griller needs to make easier to replace or get better switches. The second time, instead of taking the grill apart, I just pry the switch off to break the clips. Looking at disassembled switch, it has a very small contact area, so any little buildup of contaminate will cause failure. I think some contact cleaner may help next time. WD40 or alcohol may work.

Gonna hard-wire mine and not get this error--at least for this door switch. Bottom door will prolly be next. Did the LSS Mod for the fan flap. This is a must-do mod. It's a shame Char-Griller made this in such a manner for it to function for only a few months without errors.

i keep getting an erf error but only when the the door plunger on the starter box is plugged in. any ideas how to fix that?

When you put the car in reverse is it always supposed to beep? I just purchased a 2013 Prius yesterday and had trouble getting it into reverse to back out of my carport. It wanted to stay in neutral. Had to power off the car and turn it on again to get it into reverse and don't remember hearing it beep at all. ... So much to learn! Thank you so much for this helpful video.

It's a LOT easier to bypass the hopper switch than it is to take the cover off the hopper. The hopper switch and the switch for the ash door are in series. Remove the bracket on the back that covers the wires (loosen two screws, remove one from the fan assembly) and take the hopper switch out of the circuit. No tape or other redneck hacks needed because the connectors for both switches are the same.
