What you see here is the same thing that Vertical Venting does. It draws the fire through the entire house to get to the hole in the roof and turns a contents fire into a structural fire.

Am I the only one who clicked this video because the fire plume at 0:33 looks like the head of a cartoon horse?

Perhaps I'm slow to comment (which is actually because I just found this upload), but not as slow as the description is misleading. I reiterate others' comments: no video, no BLEVE. As disappointing for me to watch as it was (happily) safe for those present at the filming.

This is Sort of how to do it. Unfortunately, there was No Thinking by this crew. They quickly became Fountain Statues! You move in closer and on one knee to hit the ceiling with a straight stream and wave it around to cover the entire ceiling. The water will explode off the ceiling onto most of the burning material and eliminate most of the flames. That allows you to get right up to the window so you can open the nozzle to a medium cone of water, shove it into the room and wave it around. The transition from one step to the other is quick and fluid. They spent too long at each step so it took too long to eliminate the flames. From open to closed nozzle this should have taken 10 seconds.

Not a video and not a BLEVE. The overpressure valve opened and the venting vapor plume ignited. That's how it's supposed to work.

German Township Firefighters responded to a report of a person burned after throwing something on a construction burn pile. Upon arrival GTFD along with AMR staff found a subject with 80% / 2nd and 3rd degree burns on his body. Air Evac helicopter responded and flew the male subject directly to Louisville KY burn unit.

That's because the room was very hot and when water is applied it will convert to positive pressure and steam faster than it will in a well ventilated structure that was not as hot. The steam will condense back into water on every surface that is cooler than 212 degrees F. in the other rooms too. That stops the pyrolysis from creating more fuel and smoke. The fire science can definitely improve how we do our job. It will also show us why we can improve the product we use to extinguish the fires.
