Another Aussie classic. The verses were obviously rehashed a few years later for AC/DCs Ain't No Fun Waitin Round To Be A Millionaire.

The best version was the crispy first release by Billy Joe Royal from 1967. Check it out ! Although Joe South wrote the song he released his own above version two years later.

Great to see a photo of Brother Austin. He was deputy head and my chemistry teacher at St Joseph's Academy Blackheath, where I was from 1958-1965. A talented musiciam who sparked off my lifelong love of Gregorian Chant.

It's exactly fifty years ago since this track charted in the UK. I first heard it played on of all stations Radio Luxembourg, David Jensen played it on his shows for 208. Still a great record fifty years on.

Back in December 1974 we were moving from Texas to California. I was 9 but remember this song playing on the radio driving across New Mexico and Arizona. I haven't heard it since. One week out of school! Great memories.

Thus tune used to scare the hell out of one of our dogs. Her ears would go down, her tail would go between her legs and she looked hunted. I live it, but had to stop playing it, as I couldn't bear the effect it had on her
