Interesting and fun to listen to. He doesn't understand the music but in pure form as always. Thanks for sharing!

Exquisite. The Berlin Philharmonic under Sir Simon Rattle in 2012. Breakfast for my soul at the outset of another day in this 'intricate, uncaring world', as Philip Larkin would have it.

What a treat! I had this music on a tape recording in the early sixties. That tape and reel-to-reel player are things of the past. Sigh.

For a short while, I lived in the Appalachian mountains. In the town where I lived, in particular, here was a great, bald, stony peak which loomed over all the others, and every morning the sun would rise to burn off the mist, and from it the mountaintop would emerge, bathed in the golden light of dawn. Every morning. Right outside my window. This music, I believe, comes the closes to capturing the feeling of seeing it happen, and now, of remembering it. God, as long as I live, I'll always remember, and always miss the sight of its great, immense, majesty piercing through the fog... and often weep at the thought of what I had to leave behind.

No mention here of the name of this wonderful orchestra ? The glorious music of Wagner needs no comment. I was amused by Simon Rattle , the conductor. It seems contemporary conductors are absorbed with their own importance. Leonard Bernstein is a prime example of this trend . Rattle's antics are amusing and rather silly . They are designed to focus attention on himself rather than these wonderful musicians and of course Richard Wagner. I wonder if he rehearses in front of a mirror ? Conclusion : The performance was wonderful . All I had to do to enjoy this incredible music was to eliminate the visual .

Its baffling how much sheer talent wagner had. Like compare to others in his time. Wagner is like 'the' music of the 1800s.
