Very nice footage! Also they are not battling on their knees. Those are their carpal/wrists joints. Ungulates have very long “hand” bones that are fused together and their hooves work like phalangeal/finger joints. They walk on their fingerstips. The distal phalanx is the keratinized hoof that you see. If you look at the bones of the human hand, you can see that our fingertips resemble hooves.

The kaama or bubal’s genus name Alcelaphus means alces-cervid and refers to its long muzzle, how ungainly it looks, and how its front legs are longer than its hind legs. By alces, I mean a “moose” and it is what that cervid is called in Latin. By cervid, I mean a ”deer.” Its species name buselaphus was the Swiss naturalist Conrad Gesner’s name for the northern bubal. By kaama, I mean a “hartebeest” and that word came from Setswana, which is spoken in Southern Africa. By bubal, I mean a “hartebeest” and that word came from the Classical Latin word bubalus, which in turn came from the Greek word boubalos. By northern bubal, I mean the “bubal ‘hartebeest’” and that antelope is the bubal in the word bubal hartebeest. Can you believe that?

@Linda B I use to think the same way until I kept seeing the deer herd in my neighborhood. Their migration trek had been fenced, a four lane highway put in and they would just stand and stare. Finally they would jump the fence, then attempt to cross the four lane highway where the young and inexperience would be injured or killed by automobiles. Just a reminder to all humans, we share this planet with many other creatures. We just need to be mindful.
@sharonpowell19693 жыл бұрын
@Linda B Judgement or not, We human must begin to understand that we share this earth with other creatures. Maybe animals don't judge, but since we are such higher beings it seems like we would understand that there is a place for all both humans and animals. We humans cannot consume the whole earth leaving no space for anyone or thing, but us. We are intelligent enough to make room for humans and creatures.
