Would be nice to at least show the converted values in metric system on the screen so the other 98% of the world could watch it.

Ethan, You my friend are the hope of America! We need young people like you who are passionate and dedicated to chasing their dreams and willing to go through all the troubles and disciplines it takes to get there. The hard work shapes a man, chasing your vision and passion is so inspiring to an old pilot like me. Thank you.

Fun video! I used to fly across the country - from CA to FL, FL to TX - all over, in my Pitts S-1S. Love solo flying! Congrats!

I'm not fully aware of how this automotive engine is set up for a plane but do you use a torsional vibration damper? As others have posted the strains of a prop are different to a clutch on a car. Swap out for a suitable aero engine and keep flying👍

VW Golf owner plus pilot here. I don't trust my car on the ground. It would be crazy trying to drive it in the air.

Great video, great story well told! I have admired Sonex aircraft for a decade or more. A lot of bang for the buck. I have ppl but have only flown rental 172. I have a fear of ultralights and homebuilts due to the light controls and susceptibility to turbulence. The CEO of Sonex died a couple years ago crashing in a Sonex.

nit pick, but potentially life saving advice for anyone loading a trailor; always load the highest weight closer to the vehicle. otherwise glad you survived.

You ight want to consider eventually electrifying your powerplant, to electric. The Cessna 172 for a long while already has an electric version of its plane. The technology is and has been here for a while and is of course certifiable. Might look up Cessna, or other small craft companies for electric models. No crankshafts to break, fuel problems and the other myriad of fossil fuel issues one may have. electric is quiet, climate friendly and might be actually cheaper. Might consider it.

Curious why the plane was loaded backward on the trailer. It seems like for aerodynamics and weight distribution forward would have been better. Was there a reason to load it backward?

How sad that you’ve chosen to get rid of her. She’s a beautiful little bird & particularly with all the work you’ve put in to date. Why didn’t you opt for a replacement engine & traditional wooden prop. As far as I recall, the 1835 VW has a forged (not cast) crankshaft with a beefier front bearing. Ive never heard of a forged crank failure.
