Velcro between the sections to hold them together and snaps to keep them in place on the pop top. www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=463901&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=60

You are dealing with some pretty demanding circumstances there, Tim. Some of the things you don't like, the modularity, set it up with no walls, one wall, two or three walls, are some of the things I LIKE about the EZY awning walls. There are times in the heat where you just want a windbreak or sunbreak on one side or even two but still want SOME ventilation in the summer's heat (in places that aren't Maine). In the summer in the south or even midwest, ventilation, not absolute wind and waterproofing, is one of the biggest problems. Im thinking about buying a second EZ awning just to be a sunbreak on the other side of the bus. I know the wind can make it a challenge to put up the awning, but it makes it a challenge to put up anything, tent, awning, even the poptop sometimes. In severe wind, we always kept the poptop down. I remember in my first camping trip in a VW bus (an aircooled vanagon), on the coast (Hatteras), we ended up abandoning the tent camping for the kids one night then moving farther make into the tree line and behind some sand dunes to protect from the wind. High wind is always a challenge. To me, the price point on the Bus Depot EZ Awning and it's amazing versatility, makes it an incredible value. It seems it can fit almost any bus, van, suv, truck or even a car or wagon. It may may not be perfectly suited to torrential downpour type and high areas, but few things are. Kudos to your dedication to camping in that. I would struggle to enjoy it if there werent at least occasional breaks in the rain and some free Vitamin D sunshine.

I currently use a Maxi Trac awning from Napa auto parts and have the ARB awning room when we need it. I am a fan of the EZ Awning, as there are three of them in my shed but the ease of the Maxi took over. Only wish they made it in the 10" range, miss that extra space under the awning. www.napaonline.com/en/p/BK_MTSA2525

Do you have the us or uk propex? If UK, which regulator are you using and howse it working?
@TIMWHY2
@TIMWHY2 4 жыл бұрын
I am in the US, the heaters are the same I believe. The difference being the regulator here in the US is set at 11WC as appose to the UK's almost 15WC. My Propex has had no problem working at the lower pressure. The regulator is a Marshall two stage.
@averagerider92
@averagerider92 4 жыл бұрын
@@TIMWHY2 thx. Seems like you ordered your propex from vancafe or westy? They are jetted for 11wc for us standards. The issue with me is I ordered mine from UK so its set for 14wc, was wondering what you were running to get an idea if ill have problems running a 11wc regulator on the 14wc propex. Happy morning BTW m, up early :)
@timk404
@timk404 4 жыл бұрын
The results of the test you did are completely predictable. The blower used in the propex is a centrifugal/squirrel cage blower. The more air they move the more power they draw, by adding the additional tube, it increased the drag in the system and reduced the air moving through the system so as a result you saw a small reduction in power draw (remember, that fan is not the only power draw). By reducing the amount of air moving through the heater you also reduced the efficiency of the heater though so in the end reducing the 12v consumption you increased your propane consumption.

3/8 plastic tubing, two barb fittings one on both sides of the lid. You can take the lid of the container to home depot and match up the size.The pump is from Gowesty but any 12 volt pump from Walmart should work too, you'd just have to come up with the proper fittings for it. The cable is a 120 volt extension cord with a rocker switch. I cut the ends off of it and wired one end to the pump and the other to a 12 volt cig socket.

Air in a tube behaves like a fluid, length of the tube increases resistance to flow so it makes sense that increasing tube length would use more power. The bends in the tube increase turbulence an resistance. You would expect to see less resistance and more favorable power consumption as Reynolds number decreases (turbulence decrease) can you make the tubes more direct?

How long will the propane last while using this?
@TIMWHY2
@TIMWHY2 6 жыл бұрын
It would depend on how cold it is and running time to get to a desired temp. So in short it would be hard to say.
@TIMWHY2
@TIMWHY2 6 жыл бұрын
Hard to answer. It depends upon the temp desired and how cold it is. We also carry a Heater Buddy for when we don't need the Propex to be turned on all the time, like at night when cold.

They use about 140 gm of gas an hour. So a 4kg bottle (9lb) approx 30 hours on a continuous run - but it's unlikely to be running continuously so probably a lot longer.

I have the bigger model,, Propex 2800.. I have a bigger RV too so they obviously won't use the same amount of propane but... I live full time RV and my heater runs 24/7 and is set to have my interior at 25 degree celsius... in mid winter when temperature is between +5 to 0 celsius on average it takes 5 to 6 days to use a 20 lb tank.. on a very cold part of winter when temperature is 0 to -10 celsius is takes 4 days to use the 20 lb tank.. I have 2 tanks on an 'auto switch regulator' and I check in morning, after work, and before bed to see if one tank has emptied .. that is about every 8 hours and it totally possible to run out 2 minutes after I looked so it is hard to know exactly how many hours it really took.. also I keep it running full time so it runs about 10 minutes then shuts down for a while then starts again.. now it's the +5 to 0 degree part of winter so it runs 10 minutes shuts down for about 40 then starts again.. if you don't run it full time it may take several hours to warm a cold RV up to temp you want.. my first year I did some experiments and found out is uses less to keep temp constant than turning it off when I go to work and on when I get back.. also the temperature setting I use shuts off at 25 degrees and starts at 23 degrees so it's a two degree start/stop thermostat.. I did not check different thermostat setting to see what the 'average' on/off is...

Hi - thanks for the vid. I am contemplating one of these, but I have dual RMW swing aways on my van. I am wondering how much they will interfere. It looks like there would be enough room to keep them inside the shelter, 90 degrees to the rear of the van. But hoping that I may be able to swing them outside and run the shelter inside the two swing-aways as well. Bus Depot was of zero help when I called them. Thoughts?

Power = volts X amps. In the first part of the test, the voltage us at 12.7 volts. In the second part of the test, the voltage is at 12.4. One would normally expect the current draw by a motor(the fan) to go up as the voltage drops. In this case it drops. So there may be some validity to having a longer input path, but to really know, you should have identical input voltage in both tests. So hook up a stable DC source and try again.

Hmmm - I suppose the ducting could affect back pressure / pneumatic load 'seen' by the fan - which I guess that might affect amps drawn by fan. But I wouldn't have guessed that it would have made much difference.

I'm looking at getting a zodi. Do you know what the difference between the zip (black top) or the tap (red top) shower?
@TIMWHY2
@TIMWHY2 7 жыл бұрын
I don't know what the difference between the single propane bottle units are. Maybe that the red comes with a bucket that double as storage and water container. My zodi will fit inside a Lowes 5 gallon bucket with lid. I have been very happy with my unit and have recently done upgrades to the tank and shower head. The battery op pump is crappy and it will need fresh batteries for each and every use.

Tim Whynot, thanks for the prompt response. I'm thinking it getting the same one you have. It's strange but i I can't find any differences (other than cosmetically) when comparing the red top one. I too used a 5 gallon bucket to store the one borrowed so the increase in price for the red top zodi with case is not worth in to me. Can you post another video or send me links in how you upgraded the pump and head. The pump is a total joke. Thanks again
