I just got these. I'm glad I have the newer ones. I have a set of their regular colored pencils. They're very good. Not bad for being made in indiana.

You've given us 2 videos now but have yet to do much in comparison. You keep saying in your next video you will give us your conclusions which never happens. You are just providing basic information on watercolor pencil sets. This could have been so much better, you blew it. Sorry. Then you go on to say you're adding Inktense. They should not be included. Inktense are water soluble ink pencils. Comparing them to Dr. Martin's, Bombay or other art inks would make more sense. There is a big difference between watercolor pencils and ink pencils, there is no comparison. Just saw it's been 2 years so perhaps we will never get your comparison of watercolor pencils. Thanks for sharing this with us. Kathy B.

This is super helpful and probably the best scientific controlled review over the different brands. You are amazing and thank you so much. For my personal use I'm leaning towards Fantasia or Brevillier but I'm ganna wait for your transparency view before I commit.

Personally, having purchased a while ago a set of Prismacolor coloured pencils, I didn't like them at all, very waxy and forever having to sharpen them. This I believe, would certainly put me against purchasing their water colour pencils. Faber Castell are a far more a quality product. I have today purchased a 96 set of Spectrum Noir AquaBlend pencils, which I can't wait to arrive, so we shall see, how good they are, thanks for the demonstration.

I have Artist's Loft, and i don't like it really. It came with 8 normal colored pencils, 8 watercolor pencils, a 2B pencil, an HB pencil and three charcoal pencils (plus one white)

What are your thoughts on what size tins people should get? I'm not a beginner in drawing. I've been drawing for years. However colour drawings haven't been my forte but am getting into it at the moment. I seem to have this idea that I need at least 24 or more colours.... I think a 12 would just be too small for me.. What are your thoughts? More colours the better? or not really?

More!!! 😉😜 as per above comment- Found another brand, 'Coloré', cheap ($20, 72set), but surprisingly fantastic, almost comparable to high end (except lack colour names, loose stock). ... & bit of trivia here, but may help?! watched a vid series on how long different pencils last; great for the budget-conscious! Watched her colour A4 pages whole vid! Faber-Castell colour pencil covered 41pages, whilst prismacolor only covered 4 pages with 46 sharpening of the pencil! 😳 so they won't last long, but may be different for watercolour. Great to know these things for budget tho prismacolor so beautiful to use, waaa 😉

what a collection you have!!! I'm astounded by it haha thanks for showing us all those brand in contrast to each other with some of their ability looking to buy better watercolour pencils for my collection as right now I'm stuck with cheapies that just are not getting me the results I'm after. the brand is Mont Marte which is well known in Australia as a budget brand. want to get something just a bit better. they actually remind me of your Sargent ones in comparison to their colour.
@Raeburnsart
@Raeburnsart 8 жыл бұрын
they're probably a bit better than the Sargents but using them makes me feel as bad as looking at your Sargents haha how do you feel about the Staedler brand? have you ever used the Red box by Faber Castell watercolours? or academy Derwents?

late comment but due to power of social media, KZbin reviews, prices of prismacolor pencils dropped substantially in US. Can find set 72 of premiers for $24-$29 on amazon! But is not well known and still being sold at large cost in Australia (even on eBay australia) -nearly $200! Grab them while u can if u want them. I got a 72 set and no probs with them(lucky batch), but they are so soft and quite 'flimsy' compared to Derwent or Faber-Castell for instance, they dont last as long. Love them but can't afford Keep replacing. Lucky they have open stock pencils :)

Which caran dache pencils did you use? Fancolor, Supracolor, or museum aquarelle?
@bootsmama1027

The Derwent, caran D'ache supra color, Fabre castellated albrecht surer, and prismacolor are professional grade and can be layered and glazed like traditional watercolors. The prismacolor pencils are not discontinued, but are now made in Mexico with quality control issues.

+MyOwn Stuff great video! Thanks, tho sorry for late comment; only getting into art, colour pencils and watercolor since my disability made it too painful to create my music as much (pianist on SoundCloud:) so this has become such a relief and wonderful 'escape', both doing art and watching great vids! -is so hard to know what to get if funds limited and when soooo many brands!! Found another brand, 'Coloré', cheap ($20, 72 watercolour pencil set), but surprisingly fantastic, almost comparable to high end (except lack colour names, loose stock). Tho difficult to compare properly as don't own artist grade and rely on vid reviews-Have u done more similar vids since? Will check your channel:)

+hitgar Thanks. Glad I could be of some assistance! It's the reason I'm doing this. As mentioned in this video, I will be eliminating one brand from testing in my next video, and will be replacing it with Derwent Inktense pencils, which are permanent ink based water soluble pencils. Anyway, I'm not recommending one over another, but since they haven't been included in my previous videos, you might consider looking into and learning about these as well. Best of luck with your decision!

+Yuxiu Jiang Hi, thank you for your comment. That's a good question that I should clarify, since I did say they go for about $25. . In most art retail stores the 36 pencil sets start from $32 and higher, here in the US. However, if you keep your eye on eBay, I have found some great bargains on new items there. *(Currently there are several sets listed below $30, and as low as $25 .If you do an advanced search for Completed Items, you will see how frequently these new sets have recently sold for well below $25. ) Also, I watch my local and online retailers for their sales. Hope this helps. *Edited prices of listings.
