Oh my GOD! I sang in that chorus! Been seeking to revisit that all my life: it was written to commemorate the centennial of Guilford County, at the Greensboro Auditorium. I transcribed what I could. I brought hiswork to the ar]ttention of my choral director at college, a tune from Shakespeare as I recall as part of a larger choral presentation in Pasadena, CA.

What a brilliant man and composer he was. What a lucky man I was that I was allowed to be one of his composition students. Rest in Peace, Dr. Jarrett.

Rest in peace, Dr. Jarrett. I hope the sounds of this score were heard by any gathered for your passing. Beautiful melodic contour and use of motives, textures, and perhaps even a bit more dynamic contrast than this recording presents. I find the most stunning feature to be there starkly dramatic use of mode mixture at key moments of transition. I would be intrigued to learn more about the form of the piece which, to my ear, doesn't necessarily sound through-composed. Quite a gem, with cinematic potential if it hasn't already been used such!

Without looking at the score, there are some passages in this performance that don't sound quite right to me. If it's all good then please accept my humble apologies. I liked the work, by the way.

if you listen closely, after the violin duet solo, you can hear the conductor yell "crescendo!" while the violin 1 is doing their octave slurs

If this be the performance at Greensboro,Nc for the Guilford County Bicentennial for which this piece. Was composed, I want to thank whoever recorded this. It brought me to Britten and also brought Jarrett to our college choir in Pasadena at the Civic Orchestra Hall.

Thanks for the compliment. The only film music on the video is the "Fantasia" on themes from Quo Vadis. But that is also concert music, since it isn't used in any film.

Interesting sound the performers made, or perhaps it is the recording / accostic. I was sure at first in the Fugue it's a real orchestra recording. Then, the sound, the instrument timbres, is so idiosyncratic I thought it could only be an excellent sampler synthesiser or computer production, but then there was a cough, just when also I realised it had to be real people playing. The Fugue timbres are strange - like a real recording but speeded up. The Toccata sounds much more like humans playing.

interesting, the toccata on piano is so much better though, this loses the intenstity that I love on the piano version.
