This looks pretty. My project is completely different and I still don't know whether to do it. I want an aquarium with a black plastic frame and lid, but the model I want only comes in white. I don't know whether to get the white one and try and paint it, or to get a different model that comes in black. This seems like a lot of work and extra expense, which might not turn out great if I don't do it properly.

You can paint the outside of the cup in acrylics. Watercolors and gouache won't work because they'll reactivate and wash off. Lightly sand them apply gesso or spray primer for plastics then paint. I would caution against painting inside the cup. Good luck and hope you have tons of fun!

Thank you so much, I am so happy that it helped! I've moved back to the city and have been working full time, it took awhile to adjust as there were many changes in a short amount of time. I've continued exploring all mediums, and life has been truly wonderful in every aspect. (minus covid) Things have been really busy moving my little business but it's been a good busy. I have been thinking strongly about dedicating time to do them again as we've settled into new routines. I think I'm almost ready to take on more. Thank you so much for asking. Hello again! 😊 Thank you for making this video! In the lightfastness test I was talking about on Allan's channel I discovered that PY109 (I tried Roman Szmal's version) seems to be surprisingly lightfast, and I'm now very curious about how the Turner one is. (I want to find a really cool, lightfast yellow that's as transparent as possible. I'm about to try DS PY175, but haven't really yet - though it held up beautifully in the test!) May I ask you how you like it, and the other Turner colors? 🙂 Do you still use DS Moonglow? Because (speaking of lightfastness) that one doesn't hold up well under sunlight because of the PR177. Perhaps you already knew that!! But just in case I wanted to let you know. Kimberly Crick has two videos about Moonglow and it's copies here on KZbin, as well as suggestions for making lightfast mixes. Wishing you a great Wednesday!

Good morning! I have goosebumps and excitement talking pigments, one of my favourite things lol! The cobalt being brighter is cool for me too, I don't mind that at all! Lol... Yes I watch Kimberly Crick too and love her, I saw the moon glow video and it made me really sad it was one of my favourite pigments. The turners: I used them for quite a long time painting everyday with them, there are pros and cons to some of the pigments just like every brand. They are similar to holbein in movement, they don't move a lot like say Qor, there's no oxgall in them which can be good or bad depending on your style. Some of their pigments I really liked like PY154 and py109 permanent yellow those were really nice and vibrant, they do have a good pigment load but it's hit or miss with their pigments, I find a few were streaky when doing washes, I think it may be the way their pigments are ground. What I don't like is a lot of them crack in the pans I had to add glycerin to these especially yellow ochre, burnt sienna ect. Now it didn't stop them from having a decent performance. I did love py109 but since then I've switched my primary yellow to py175 lemon yellow daniel smith. Now the hue for py175 is slightly warmer then a true lemon but I'm really liking it because its like a neutral yellow that I can make cool or warm depending on what I mix. If I could do things over again because I am a professional artist ( I work In all mediums, watercolor took me longer to try because I was scared of watercolor nightmares using prang and crayola from my childhood hahaha I didn't realize how much I'd love them) But ya if I could do it over again I would skip turner's and stick to buying ds, winsor newton, holbein, the higher grade paints. Now if your not a professional the turner's are great deal for the money and the pigment load is there but I can't stand the way they dry in pans. On a side note they really did py109 well and occasionally I pull them out to play with them or use just one or two pigments. When I did this video it was around this time that I realized I had so much to learn in this new medium and I didn't want to give bad advice based on my lack of experience. So for the last few years I've moved back to my little city, been painting up a storm everyday and have really learned watercolor on another level. I would feel confident now coming back and making videos again, its been something that's on the table for my little business here. The scanning I'm still new at calibrating images, there are learning curves to everything haha but I'll get there. Yes the opera can be hard to scan and calibrate it takes me forever to get it right. But I know everytime it will get easier. It was so good talking to you thank you for making my day brighter, I just love love pigment talk. I hope you have an awesome day back my friend!! Xoxo Cheers from Canada

PrimaTek are ground minerals, that's the difference. Aside: you may want to update your note about "moonflower" not being PrimaTek - it should be Moonglow. The owner of Daniel Smith pronounces PrimaTek with a short "i" - as in "primitive" where it got its name.

Thank you so much for watching I took a step back from making videos to learn everything I could about watercolor so I could make better quality videos which I'm starting again soon. The holbein are nice and you can tell they are a professional brand from the quality. The downfall I didn't like that they add pw6 to many mixtures and have many multiple pigments. I've used them all up minus a half pan of every color for collection. The turner's are not as nice as other brands I've tried as they can be streaky in flat washes but... If your new to watercolor because of the price they are a good starting point for 15 ml tubes if your building a palette. They've served me well while learning and building my palette up and I do recommend them for that. The extra color I bought I really liked and still have it in my palette. Thank you kindly my friend! Yay! I'm so glad they arrived! And so glad you like the cobalt turquoise, may have to take a punt and add it to my collection. I can say a couple of drops of water in the pans for a few minutes with almost all of my colours they rewet beautifully. Mayan Blue with a couple of brands are a little hard but again some time with a couple drops of water makes a world of difference. (Wrote before you commented on the same) and I can't decide if I prefer Turner (greener) or DS (bluer) but find good uses for both. My 24 set has only one that cracks... ivory black (and will admit never put the Chinese white in a pan so it may do but many of my convenience colours that have pw6 definitely crack big time! But they still rewet easily and stay out in the pan. The Jayne's gray is a good mix with this set, you can lean either way but can also get a great neutral from both browns with their own character.

I hope your having a great week! I've been playing with these and enjoying them so much! I think these are beautiful paints, strong pigmentation and I was really surprised at the turquoise that came in the set, it's so gorgeous I'm in love! I really like the gamboge and have never used one before. I love the olive green, the yellows were clean and vibrant. And I really enjoyed the reds too! I'm so happy with them! I picked up a senelier tester pack that I'm really enjoying. I haven't tried a lot of Senelier yet, but I really like their ultramarine blue so decided to try the tester pack. It's a nice little set. I'm also super excited I bought the Mgrahm Cobalt set,it's being shipped and should be here Tuesday! They went on sale at my favourite art store and I couldn't resist so I have some new videos to make and some new paints to play with. Now I feel like I'm replenished, it doesn't feel too precious and I'm pulling my holbeins out of my pallette to put them aside so I can keep the set together... lol I really like the Mayan blue, it does take a little extra to rewet but I took your advice, I spray them 2 minutes before I use them and they rewet beautifully. I was doing a few paintings with them, I got clean mixes which I was really happy with too. I would definitely recommend this set, especially if there just starting and need to build their base palette. I really like the Browns, and agree completely with you, they make a great neutral! I'm going to play with the Payne's in some monochrome value studies. Ttys xoxoxo hoping your weeks going awesome!!

@@angiewright-artist8246 That was why I bought the Turner paints originally was the price in the UK, circa £60 for 24 seemed a good deal to me and they are big tubes, so never had that anxiety that I was wasting paint (My first few tubes of Daniel Smith, I was SO precious them!). I totally agree about the Perm Gamboge it was a first for me as well and it's a yellow I get along well with, it's almost like a Quin Gold light, you can get a good variety of colour on its own and mixing. When I first started my journey into watercolour so many yellows looked the same to me and it just stood out. My poor Senelier and Schmincke sets are so neglected. They are both gorgeous paints in their own rights but I haven't been able to spend much time with them and for the price, I do panic that I'm wasting them. The Senelier Chinese Orange has been used more than most of my collection, it sits just between a bright and burnt orange and I think it's one that comes with the tester. It's so good, and another good neutralizer with utltra marine. M Graham, Hoblein and QoR are always on my wishlist and just haven't managed to find a good deal on either yet, but one of these days! Looking forward to seeing you trying them out. I had to go home for a family emergency in Texas and thought I'd finally found a good deal for Holbein and was prepared to stock up and then did the maths and it didn't work out enough of a difference between UK prices with exchange rate, so none yet, but one of these days :) You've inspired me to give more cobalt colours a go. I don't know if White Nights work for you, but another good value for quantity and they are nice paints, but their new colours include a Cobalt Turquoise and some other unique colours like Venice Purple and Naples Orange so think I'm gonna take the punt and order them; 9 artists grade colours, full pan, for just shy of £17! Thank you so much and hope you're having a fantastic week as well. Any updates on the competition? *fingers crossed*.

Got to go to Blick's in SF a couple of years ago and got my first few tubes and Moon Glow, Shadow Violet and Kyanite (I was apparently missing the grey skies) and have had to bite the bullet to expand my collection because they are so nice to use. Green Gold is the Quin Gold of greens, so many different shades all in one. I think you may have sold me on finally getting some Cobalt colours because they Cobalt teal is lovely! P.S. Moon Glow and Shadow Violet are mixes of complementary colours and they separate into amazing effects, you get hints of green, pink and purple when it dries. So good and really fun convenience colours.

Thanks so much for doing this comparison! I was lucky enough to go on a Daniel Smith tour a few months ago, and they showed how they made the sticks--they start out about 3 times the size of the final product and are put in a dehydrator (like those used for dried fruit) for a month or two to dry out and shrink down to the size of the stick--so are pretty concentrated. Some colors take longer, or shrink more and I think your Moonglow stick probably kept shrinking after it was packaged (maybe because of the Ultramarine). I think these may be very climate specific, because some videos I've seen show the sticks as very soft and yours seemed fairly hard. I have a few sticks and use them like annette does as pans. I also tried the Winsor & Newton versions last week and they are much harder than the DS sticks, as you said more crayon-like. A lot of the WN stick colors are different formulas than the tubes and pans, maybe to keep them hard enough? Don't know, wish I had asked the WN rep. Anyway, I'd like to find more uses for these as sticks and use them for mark making, so will look for the videos you mentioned with pastel and encaustic artists. Looking forward to your future experiments!

@@everartokelli thank you so much Everart!! Yes they have it listed in front of the pigment and you just cleared up for me! And moonglow explanation makes so much sense!! I'm going to paste a comment I wrote up on the WN video earlier tonight, you and I have made the exact observation regarding the sticks. I'm so envious you got to go to the D.S. factory I was literally just talking to my parents on our last visit a few weeks ago and told them I want to go to Seattle and visit Daniel Smith. !! I'm so excited even just thinking about it haha ;) Ps. Sorry ahead of time this reply was lengthy... I've been using both the Winsor Newton sticks and the D.S sticks since recording.... In my acrylics work I love Winsor Newton acrylics both the professional range, heavy bodies and the Galleria. There a great quality product and I'm a fan. Now that being said...I'm not impressed with the watercolor sticks. They don't have the pigment payload that I expected of one of my favorite acrylics makers. So much so I'm going to write the company about it. With all the methods of using them I prefer applying a wet brush to them and using like a watercolor pan. There good for flicking paint but I wanted them to use for adding color when I travel or plein air. After a few months of using them I'll do another review to show my artworks used with them and likes vs dislikes. I find the pigment load weak compared to their professional watercolors, even compared to Cotman. They have a waxy feel like a crayon, which is fine except I truly believe whatever binder they use with them doesn't release the pigment load in a vibrant manner. I think they know this too because the more pigment research I did, the yellow ochre has two pigments PY42 and PR101. (The tube is just PY42/PY43 depending which you buy) I have experience with pigments and the associated costs. At first I thought they added the PR101 as a cost filler but now I don't believe that's the case at all. I believe they added the pigment because the pigments on their own are not strong enough with the waxy filler so they use the secondary darker pigment to boost the color payoff. PR101 is a more expensive pigment compared to the PY42 so their not doing it to save on cost. The added pigments make them more expensive to make. I don't regret buying the kit because I was very curious about them and would have thought about them and wondered what they were like... In hindsight for what I paid I could have bought another 7 D.S sticks which they work just like having D.S in the tube or a pan. I'm disappointed in the Winsor Newton sticks if someone asked my professional opinion I'd say buy the D.S sticks, put a chunk in a pan buy the $5.00 case which holds 5 and you'll be happier. The D.S sticks have the drawback that if it's a hot or humid environment they get soft and hard to use like a crayon but there pure pigment baked into stick form. They release just as beautiful as the pans but are better with dabbing a brush and water and not coloring with. Their a cheaper way to obtain 12 MLS of Daniel Smith. I'm sad I wish this was an awesome product that I loved and could say good things about but for these, I like the carry case, it classic Winsor Newton and I'm going to repurpose it when I'm done with the sticks but I'm so dissapointed and would hate for you to buy them and be disappointed too. :( Im working late in my studio tonight so while it's on my mind I'm going to write the company. If nothing else I hope they display pure professionalism in their response as I love their acrylics and they've been one of my brands for over 5 years now. Awesome info!! Thanks for confirming about the climate affecting the softness, I live in Seattle which is pretty temperate so haven't noticed it much. The best deal with the DS sticks are the Primateks, I'm going to get the Sodalite and Piemontite (one of my fave colors) next time I'm at the store as they're more expensive in tube form. I think it's probably a trade off with making watercolor sticks, Daniel Smith seems to be okay with the sticks being a bit inconsistent since they're hand-crafted (Thom called them a labor of love for artists), and Winsor & Newton decided on consistency of texture and size, so suffers with pigment load. However, in my brief chance to test them, the Indigo and Ivory Black seemed pigmented enough to use. I usually find that when art supplies disappoint me, I put them away and eventually find a new use for them I didn't think of originally :) I've been experimenting with using charcoal and soft pastels with my watercolors to combine drawing and painterly techniques, which is why I'm so interested in how artists are using the sticks--I like your idea of using them to splatter paint. I'm so glad I found your channel, now have to catch up on your other videos!!

@@everartokelli thank you so much my new friend, I hope you won't be dissapointed in my other videos as I've been working up to being comfortable talking on camera. I've shared my art journey for 5 years on Facebook and decided I wanted to share my journey with world and speak to artists everywhere. I do however have many videos and projects in progress that I want to share that I think can help. I think it's great your using your pan pastels and graphite in your works. I enjoy doing a watercolor then going on top with my polychromos pencils to bring in super fine detail for my realism works. I love the experimentation!! When you're using your pan pastels have you used them with alcohol or water, (alcohol dries faster that's all ) for an underpainting to really get it into the tooth. Almost like staining it? I imaging you have I just really enjoy this technique and using a brush with them too :) I'm not sure if you've tried it watercolor then colored pencil I mean... If your new to it just make sure your done the watercolor portion before going into colored pencil as those are oil based, or wax based depending on which brand you use. You can layer colored pencil over watercolor but you can't put watercolor over oil or wax...same as you would with an acrylic underpainting mixed media. :) I'm doing the exact same as you with primatek D.S sticks! I have to wait for the store to restock before buying they were sold out!! I'm so smiling haha :) and I'm totally with you about the Winsor Newton's...I've put them aside and when the right project comes for them I'll find a good use :D there not awful it's just once I saw the comparison and the difference in pigment then of course I want the pigment haha!! Oh and because it's freezing here right now all the sticks are super hard but I have an artist friend in Singapore that told me about the affect of the heat and humidity affecting the sticks so I knew right away that was why In future videos I'll have speed acrylic paintings, and encaustic is coming as soon as all the snow melts and I can work in my garage without freezing! Lol I'm excited to try it, I'm already stocking up materials I'll need. As well as any tips/reviews or even if just need to Vlog to talk art with people like me in the world. It was a pleasure meeting you and chatting with you. thank you so much you truly made my night!

I would have to get the magnify glass out also. I love Windsor Newton stuff. I have never tried these, but I will now. I saw a couple of times you put the stick into the water and it did not come off very well. How does it work, stick into the water?

Hey Rod I've been using both the Winsor Newton sticks and the D.S sticks since recording.... Thank you for asking Rod xoxo sorry about the letter response lol I wanted you to have the best info I could give

Angie Wright-Artist I bought this set recently and I put pieces of the sticks into half pans. I have found them to be wonderful when used that way. They work just like the Winsor and Newton professional watercolour pans. My set was 12 colours, so it included a wonderful sap green and raw umber.

DS colors are of good strength. I just chop a piece off and stick it in s pan to rewet like any pan color. Really good deal to get 3 pans of DS color in one stick.😁

@@annettefournier9655 thank you so much for your comment Annette! :) I'm in Canada they run about $15.00 per stick at local shops here but.. when I shopped online with a store I love a few hours away kingsframingandartgallery.com has a sale on them right now for 10$ which is fantastic pricing. Deserres.com starts at 13.99$ for them and I see the limited range but I agree with you that the colors they have available are perfect for me so I'm going to buy the sticks in the colors available to save. :) especially want to try the primateks :) I hope you have a great evening take care too my friend.xo

Love love love your unboxing! So glad there were so many colors in that palette that you wanted to try. i HATE having any other colors near my yellow either. So happy to meet someone else that feels the same. I highly recommend playing around with mixing transparent red and brown oxide with other colors. They are beautiful mixing colors that turn any color into rich jewel tones. I hope your cold gets better soon :)

Thank you so much Oto, I truly love the pallet!! I can't wait to play with them and I'm definetly going to take your advice and swatch the brown and red oxide! I am so in love with the colors and love your hand mulled ultramarine so much!! I see what you meant about the schminke sap green! It looks like such a clean color, I hAve been able to play with them yet, I had a super busy day, so I'm going to use them in my warm up for my acrylics tomorrow and I so can't wait!! I sometimes cringe when I see the green or blue on the yellow , some colors you can get away with them mixing and unless it's bad you don't see it, but yellow the finest little bit of other pigment and I see it right away. It only took me a few times painting to switch them around away from each other. Thank you so much! I love my pallet, 10 years from now I'll still have it tucked away as a keepsake. :) I hope you're having an awesome week too! Xoxo
