Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! It is surprising that among the hundreds of teachers of low-level Korean, you are addressing serious stuff. These kind of subtitled podcasts make a foreigner like me truly soak in the culture through a new language. Thank you so much!

You are by far the most generous and thorough teacher here. I absolutely love that you assume your students are serious about detail and nuance - and you dig in deep. Thank you and may God bless you!!

Thanks for the great video! Surprised to not see -더라, the quotation endings (e.g. plain form -고), and -냐/-니 as I thought those were extremely common. Maybe there is just too many of them :)

선생님!!! how can we differentiate between them like which adj or verb should we use with, can we switch ending according to our wants for example 기 with 무섭다 and say 무섭기? or it has a specific rule?
@alphakoreanclass

Hi there! 😊 Let me explain based on the video content. ‘-음’, ‘-기’, and ‘-는 것’ are suffixes used to transform adjectives or verbs into nouns in Korean. Here's how they differ: BASE STEM + -음 This suffix attaches to verbs or adjectives to create abstract nouns. Examples: 기쁘다 ➝ 기쁨 (Tears of joy: 기쁨의 눈물) 무섭다 ➝ 무서움 (I am easily frightened: 저는 무서움을 잘 타요.) BASE STEM + -기 More suitable for verbs, it is used to describe states or levels. Examples: 맵다 ➝ 맵기 (level of spiciness: 맵기 단계) 얇다 ➝ 얇기 (thickness of hair: 머리카락의 얇기) BASE STEM + -는 것(거) This suffix is used to describe things or objects as nouns. Examples: 예쁘다 ➝ 예쁜 ➝ 예쁜 것/거 (pretty thing: 예쁜 것) "것" is formal and used in writing, while "거" is casual and common in conversation. 👉 Check out more details at Alpha Korean Class(www.alphakoreanclass.com/sentence-structure)! so can we say 아프니까 못 왔어요 to a friend? is it used like this way? if not in which situation it can be used?
@alphakoreanclass
@alphakoreanclass 2 ай бұрын
Great question! Yes, 아프니까 못 왔어요 is grammatically correct, but it’s typically used when the listener already knows you were sick. For example, if they were aware you weren’t feeling well and you’re explaining the result (why you couldn’t come). However, if this is the first time you’re letting them know you were sick, saying 아파서 못 왔어요 is more appropriate and polite. It communicates the situation clearly without assuming they already knew. So, context is really important here! Using 아프니까 in the wrong situation might feel a bit abrupt or even rude. I hope this helps clarify! 😊
