Being a PA is being a grunt. It is not a skill.
@officialfriendsinfilm3 ай бұрын
This is not true. It's a skill to get hired and the best PA's get hired again and again to work closely with professional DPs, PDs, Producers, Gaffers, Actors, etc. Every movie and TV show you love has hired PAs. All of the future films and shows will hire PAs. Imagine getting hired and working as a PA on your favorite show. This is what we teach our people to do. You can learn how to do that here www.friendsinfilm.com/get-in/

@@DAMON409 The PA job when used strategically is a temporary job - a professional film school where you get paid to learn. How does one develop the skills to move into a craft and join the union? There are 2 parts: spend 80% of your time PAing on the big stuff and making connections with people in a craft. And spend 20% of your time on low budget stuff working on your craft to build experience. Most people wanting to move up either spend 100% of their time PAing or 100% of their time on low budget stuff and that is no way to build an actual career.

Most jobs in film are grunt jobs like Grips, Painters, etc... If you want a DP job or a writing job or Directing the competition is through the roof.
@officialfriendsinfilm3 ай бұрын
Being a grip or painter requires special skills. Not anyone can do those jobs, it's not grunt work. Union members will make about $650/12hrs and have a nice career. Yes. All film jobs are competitive. That's why a lot of people want to work in film but don't know how. Most of the work only goes to a select few. We teach our students how to become one of those select few. If you want to learn more then go here: www.friendsinfilm.com/get-in/
@DAMON4093 ай бұрын
@@officialfriendsinfilm Painters make about 300 bucks a day, not $650 They work 8-10 .hour days, not 12 usually. Im a member of IATSE, so keep that in mind. Yes, you need training before applying. But when you have the training, you can simply sign up to IATSE. No need to hang around film sets and kiss asses, which won't work anyway. You teach your students to be the select few? They don't need you; they need the skill set, which means going to film school or getting training and experience in a specific area.

I just read the description of your video and just wanted to say thank you, I really needed to read this today. I have been in the Medical field for 25+ years, I am a Medical Director, Ultrasound technician. I've managed 6 medical facilities and staff in addition to raising two girls and a husband LOL. Basically I let life drag me with my eyes closed LOL. I don't regret it but it's time! Although Healthcare is a passion and where I feel comfortable and smart, but TV/Film lights up my spirit. I've always wanted to be a part of that world but I didn't know what exactly. I'm obsessed with TV/Film. I love home decor and interior design. How obsessed? Well when I watch a movie I dont just watch it, I do research on the cast, the production crew, locations where it's filmed, the set decorator and production designer as if it's my job LOL I just love it! but what always catches my eye is the background, the movie sets and the continuity of the dressing and props. I'm fascinated by it. Although this idea hit 30 years later, I'm grateful it hit me. I want to be a set decorator. My boss of 17.5 years is retiring soon and I'm putting all my energy into becoming a set decorator. I can not go back to school full time so I've taken courses online anything I can find and learn from. Oddly enough there aren't that many videos on it. I do follow SET DECOR and SET DECORATORS SOCIETY OF AMERICA ON KZbin. It's not even about the money. I'm 45 and I just want to be happy and in love with my life and truly contribute to something I am passionate about. So thank you for your platform and your message. I have the drive to be one of the best!
