It's a great poem, but he actually refers to himself as putting 'out to sea', and 'the flood may bear me far' which implies crossing the bar into the unknown, and not into harbour. He is, indeed going home, but it is an unknown place. The reference to his 'pilot' could be seen as God guiding through this uncharted territory,

Dear Anne, some day in the 80s I walked into a record store and they were playing Instruments of darkness. I didn’t know what it was, it was beyond anything I’ve heard before, but I knew I had to have it. I was only 14 but since that moment I’ve been an absolute fan of AoN and you. I don’t know where else to reach so so I’m writing here in hopes that you’ll read this some day. You are an amazing artist, your compositions have so much soul and beauty and they have been with me forever. Me and some friends use to act every single sound from songs like Beatbox on our way to school. Now I’m 53 and I think that I enjoy the music even more. Anyway, this is just a quick note to thank you for so much music. 🇲🇽

In the extremely unlikely eventuality that Anne Dudley sees this comment, I want to thank you for a moment that happened to me about 18 months ago. I absolutely loved our noise from the very first moment I heard the Peter Gunn theme and you guys have two albums in my personal top 10 of all time. It is no exaggeration to say that you have had a massive affect on my life and I still listen to AON in the car or whatever. My son grew up, hearing it in the background, and mostly not paying attention to it. Just weird old dinosaur music that is weird old dinosaur dad listens to. Apart from Ode to Don Jose, which he loves, it was just kind of there. And 18 months ago, I got a copy of “….plays the art of noise.” I was listening to it for about 20 minutes, reveling in it, and then my son came out of his room and said, “ is this the art of noise played on the piano?” I said yeah. He said, “ this is the most strangely gorgeous thing I have ever heard.” And it was just one of those transcendent moments where I was completely absorbed in what I was listening to, and my son came out, and it turns out he had actually been listening to all of my music all along, and he found this new thing as gorgeous as I did. I am not doing a good job of articulating it, but it really was one of the nicest moments in the last few years of my life, and I just felt like I should say thank you. So: if, by some miracle, you happen to see this comment: thank you very much.

Has Anne made this charming theme available to us piano players who need the dots? I have done a search for the sheet music, but, so far without success.

Anne Dudley's piano playing is so Sati-esque. 40 years later, «Moment in love» remains one of my favourite tracks. And this interpretation raises the bar...

Moments in love - for me that is the epitome of ambient and chill out music. I've got goosebumps from the first listen until now. It's pure magic and the harmonies have something mystical about them. I couldn't help it and had to do a cover version of it. I hope to have hit the message and the feeling of the song with my interpretation. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5SqnayXZrGJeqs
