I would tie some small floats to the sides so it doesnt sink completelly even when full, hole in the bottom small hole, pull wire trough, tie big rock at other end, adjust height and bend the wire inside the bucket, ofc some stronger wire.

If you put in a small fountain and pump to run it on the other end of the pond, the surface movement between the two running pumps would direct most of that duckweed to the skimmer bucket in a single afternoon.

I’m just a dumb engineer, but I’m an experienced fish keeper and I know that duckweed and other blooms happen because of the fertilizer that washed into this pond. Something else will need to grow to keep up on the supply of nitrates, nitrites, ammonia etc.

Yes I think the majority of the nutrients come from the ducks that live on the pond in the summer plus my property is very fertile in general also. This year I actually dont have any duckweed on the pond tho for some reason.

Waterfowl experts say that wild ducks are the ones that spread duckweed, they go from pond to pond or lake and duckweed will be on their feet and belly and then when they go to another body of water it washes off but you are right that the nutrients in the water are what makes them reproduce like crazy.

Ive done the same thing in my pond, with one difference... I made a big "push net" from the black nylon construction netting you see on the sides of the road during construction projects. Put floats on the top of the netting and weights on the bottom. Then you get a couple guys on each end to drag it through the pond and corral the duckweed to one corner. It makes sucking it out 10 times faster. Only other thing i can add is that your having the duckweed because there is a problem with your water. Order yourself a pondvwater test kit and see where the problem is. Then you can start to add things to your water to actually correct the problem so weeds dont grow at all. Good job and good luck.
@danieljckson
@danieljckson 4 ай бұрын
Thank you for the advice! I think most of the problem is from the ducks waste and just from my property itself. Between the ducks and the property, the water has a lot of nutrients in it. Testing it is a good idea though. Thanks again!

Pretty nice setup! I'd suggest adding a skimmer top to your bucket so you can set the bucket an inch or two below the water and let the skimmer regulate the amount of water coming in, so your pump doesnt over-run the water. Like this... kzbin.infoHeuY4HItgLc

How much liquid do you end up with if you distill a standard bottle of wine (750ml)?
@Dayrile
@Dayrile 6 жыл бұрын
if you started with distilling an already made wine then you end up with a much higher proof alcohol, to make it into an easier to drink version similar to brandy, mix it back in with some of the wine that you have not yet distilled (which will make it into a port wine). this is not exactly brandy but it will produce a much smoother spirit than the high proof coming out of the still. optionally you may wish to add in a small amount of sugar or honey (which i preffer). the sugar will add sweetness alone and the honey will add sweetness plus make it taste a bit closer to mead or maybe a "mulled" wine.

The reason why you call it "strong", is probably because you made no cuts, which btw is difficult with such a tiny still. Anything distilled out of fruits, is called Brandy. The sample you set on fire, has to be at least 50% (that will be 100 proof). Anything less, won't light. Also, the slight orange in the flame are all the impurities, due to the before mentioned cuts you didn't do. If you ever plan to drink any of that stuff, throw the foreshots at least and do never ever collect in a plastic container..! Collect in glassware, plastic WILL leach into your spirits. Btw...what about that gasket? If that's synthetic, throw it to hell and use flour paste. I've seen some comments on Methanol and you will go blind...that's bullshit! The amount is the same, regardless if it's in the wine you distill or in the final product. Obviously, you won't go blind from drinking a bottle of wine...that will be if you don't stumble and hit your head hard..that causes temporarily "blindness"...lol. However, if you throw the first stuff out (smells like nail polish remover)you're on the safe side and your product tastes a lot better. Use that tiny still to run some cider or similar, then you'll get ok results. If you want the real deal, get a bigger still (you can easily build one with a stock pot. Just a few words from someone that has been stillin for years. Stay safe...

I've tended bar for over 10 years and I would have difficulty lighting anything less that 80 proof liquor, and anything 100 proof or more (Bacardi 151) was ideal for lighting shots. I'd usually float a little 151 on top of a shot to light it, 151 was lighter than flavored liquors so it would rest easily on top of poured shots. So I'm going to guess that what you have is at least 80 proof, but I'd be surprised if it was only 80 proof. It's likely twice that, at least.

Since some kinds Wine are made from fruit, then distilling that product is Brandy. Wine made from Sugar cane and or Molasses ( a by-product of making Sugar ) and then distilled is Rum. Whiskey is generally made from Grain like Corn, Wheat, Oats etc. But Tequila is only made from Agave as far as I know and generally not an easy product to start with let alone readily available. Distilled spirits will burn a blue flame when it is at least 50% Alcohol.
