Natalie was willing to go into uncharted emotional territory in her acting. She's really channeling madness here. This reminds me a bit of James Deans "You're tearing me apart!" speech in Rebel Without A Cause. He was channeling a different kind of character but both performances are examples of actors in "old Hollywood" times bringing real human emotional rawness, a new kind of acting, into films. She was among the best of her time.

Oh how this movie brings memories of my life, my mother's threats that if I ever were to get "in trouble" she'd throw me out on the streets! I was scared to death but ended up with a date rape as it is now called. I had a bad cold, doctor prescribed codeine cough medicine & no warnings back then by doc or inserts. So I took the medicine as prescribed but on my date I was coughing terribly so I took more. (I had it in my purse) I was so messed up with the med & the creep knew what was going on, he was 22 & I had lost my true love (like Bud) recently & had no experience at all with men. The boy I loved had been having sex with a homely slut who acted like she was as innocent as the Virgin Mary, he broke up with her for me but was having sex since he was 13 with her & while I fell in love with him at 17, he said he wasn't going to go back to mas------again while she went to "bed" with all his track mates! I found out from a friend of his who turned her down out of loyalty to Willie. 1 other did so he said but I was left by him & my mom was proud of me. No one marries a girl who gives out! Well after 2-3 mos. of pining for him I broke down & called him & told him what she had done. He said I hurt her & she told me about it! He forgave her!! Then he married her. Listen to your mother, bah! But he was the sweetest dearest man I'd ever met & I still think of him & what might have been. I was date raped soon after this fiasco! Spoiled, as the film put it. I felt like it was all my fault (like women will say of there own sex, traitors to their own sex) So I advise all women young & old to watch this movie with their "spouses". I loved this movie and still do made in'61 it should be sees not only for the education but it's a great film! I disagree with rotten tomatoes, it should be 99%! A great movie about our history & the depression of 1929! Also "Love With the Proper Stranger", To Kill a Mockingbird, Casablanca & so many more before Creep Ron Desantas, who I believe is S. American history the sadist( please look this up before he bans the internet & all its content. For you evangelical radicals, don't you obey the 10 Commandments? You take The Bible so literally, what about "Thou shalt not KILL"? Then everytime you kill an insect you're breaking a commandment! Can't spray Raid or Hot Shot. Do you eat meat? Killer? Take every word literally & we'd all be in hell! Born Again or not! Ha!

Invisible truth... Emily Brontë Love and Friendship Love is like the wild rose-briar, Friendship like the holly-tree- The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms But which will bloom most constantly? The wild rose-briar is sweet in spring, Its summer blossoms scent the air; Yet wait till winter comes again And who will call the wild-briar fair? Then scorn the silly rose-wreath now And deck thee with the holly’s sheen, That when December blights thy brow He still may leave thy garland green.
