Not at all! It should not have been the sole reason for the success. Roger got it wrong, and now he has to live with his controlling attitude and regrets. Perfectionism is in the mind of the beholder, as the work might not be so perfect to others, but collaborative work always come across perfect to the team. In other words team work is always supersedes disunity and individualism. That is why countries run by dictatorship are always worse off than those run by democratic processes.

There were loads of songs which David and Rick wrote and they were complete with words. Comfortably Numb was a David G song. I think that the album “Obscured by clouds” was a breaking point for Roger. David and Rick were getting close to making a great sound together and he wanted to stop it by suggesting that he would write the lyrics in the future. This gave him more power and now everything has his name on it. It all went to his enormous head. Listen to the vocals of Richard and Davy on “Echoes” that is the true Floyd sound.
