And now, 11 months later, he keeps on taking players from Oregon State. What a guy.

Revisiting this, one year later. As I recall, during that entire telecast of 3 hours plus, the ABC announcers never once brought up the subject of WSU and OSU being left behind in the collapse of the Pac-12. Only an occasional comment was made about "the final Pac-12 game at Reser Stadium". Sorry ABC, a year later, you still looks bad.

While Jonathan Smith is finishing out his contract at Michigan State, when Jedd Fisch leaves , should be right about the time Smiths contract will be up. Then he should be the first one to call Washington to say l want the job. Even if that is to take less for now to get the job you want. If I'm Jonathan Smith, lm headed to Washington after 3 years.

Smith saw the writing on the wall. The pac12 is done. From now on Oregon state is going to be relegated to second tier football and will be fighting for any respect or relevance. Recruiting for Oregon state always has been tough. and now it is going to be a lot more difficult. Now Smith gets the reigns of a college football team that has a lot of winning history, he gets money, respect, and a recruiting path that is much easier. Smith gets to show the world what he can do on a national stage. It is a no brainer for him to make such a move. Furthermore, Smith paid his dues and fulfilled his job duties at Oregon State as both a player and a coach and went above and beyond. You should be thanking him for that, not throwing him under the bus for taking a rare golden opportunity.
@gsithdogowns11 ай бұрын
I think you have to be careful to accuse Smith of ill treatment of Oregon State. Think of his position, he probably really wanted to grow there, but felt betrayed by the negligence and inability to flex with the conference reshaping. I don’t think he left out of arrogance, but from a place offeeling like the ground caved in beneath him. I don’t blame him for wanting to wash his hands and move on quickly.

I don't want Grubb. He'll leave at the drop of a dime.
@Jason-lk9yi11 ай бұрын
The crazy thing about Grubb is that he turned Alabama down last year when they tried to poach him from Washington. Grubb stayed because he talked players like Penix and others to stay at UW for one more season and didn't want to leave after he asked players to stay. When DeBoer left UW, Grubb went and asked UW's AD if he could take over the HC job at UW, and they turned him down. Grubb wanted to stay at UW.

Washington would probably have been a better fit for Smith, but that is debatable. The Huskies appear to be headed down a dark road right now, and Smith would be facing a tough rebuilding task,. Even if Smith turns out to be a total bust at MIchigan State, he'll walk away with a lot of cash -- more than he'd receive from the Huskies. He and his family will quietly smile and move on to the next opportunity, -- and there will be one waiting, It's life on the head coach carousel. He'll drop off his Michigan State swag at the nearest Goodwill store and grab a flight out of town. Don't be surprised to see Smith coaching the Oregon Ducks in a few years.
