Thats the point, using modern agriculture is destroying the top soil faster than it can be made. I've no interest in farming conventionally

I worked at a soil testing facility and let me tell you, nobody knew what they were doing inside the lab. The argonomist used his math intellect to fudge the results. They lied about doing double blind standards to stay NAPT and ALP certified. I was "trained" to run a LECO nitrogen/carbon analyzer and that machine was NEVER calibrated properly. Not once in 3 years. And I doubt that lab is the only one that runs like that. Just beware that there's liars and cheats. So if your results don't add up, it's probably the lab.

Sawdust is not the same things as wood chips

No, the problem with raw wood chips is not ‘nitrogen tie-up’, it the intermediate breakdown products; short chain organic acids that inhibit seed germination and root growth. If you heap the wood chips into a pile and cover the pile with an impermeable cover, they will decompose by way of fungi. Once you have allowed the wood chips to decompose, they will be usable as a mulch. Keep the chips away from the stems of plants. Allow good contact with the soil. Apply finished compost on top of the chips. Good luck.

Where do you purchase lemons that aren't coated with these new "preservers" such as APEEL? I know the stores around me all coat the fruits, lemons, Avocado's, apples, etc.

Soil tests tell no lies. I like to plant Italian ryegrass mixed with red clover as soon as the garden plants are done for the season when you are ready to plant you simply plow it down green.

Isnt the 'scale' for nitrogen based on synthetic petrochemical nitrogen applied to the field by the ton? I'd say if you are low/medium you are killing it!

I just watched this and it looks like it was 2 years ago. And I think you meant well. And I want to be kind, for sure, but… So HR gives you a machine to use, in exchange for you to show people videos like this, and perhaps give your honest opinion And yet you didn’t know what you were doing. You didn’t prove the eggs were dry. How did you know they were fully dry? And you took them out after how many hours of extra dry time? So how did you know they were sufficiently dry enough for safe storage? And you removed the trays when they were so cold you had to use a towel to keep them from hurting your hands. We’re you not aware that you only take trays out when they are warm? And when you moved the trays to the counter, the eggs were still cold. YOU NEVER STORE COLD FOOD. NEVER!!! Now if a newbie sees your video, they are gonna make the same mistake. They are gonna think as you did, that when “Process Complete” popped up on the display, that the food was done The title of your video was “Watch this before freezing eggs.” Not “Watch this before you freeze dry eggs”. Perhaps it’s time to take this video down and do a new one showing correct procedures. I’m surprised HR didn’t contact you about the error.

I think you need to update your title. Very misleading. I thought this was a bread recipe made in 30 mins from start to finish… this is really prep dough to bake later. So there is planning involved not really off the cuff deciding to bake bread

We had a big garden that was halved. My Pop n Granny taught me rotation. Half the garder was planted and surronded with chicken wire. We ha a chicken coop, rabbit hutches, and a guinea pig hutch. They were at the end of the garden and roamed our fallow side. Moved to the planded side after harvest. Sweet corn depletes the soil but we always had a lush garden, especially our tomatoes. Granny watered them with water dipped out of a rain barrel which had a couple scoops of chicken sh*t (Grannies words 😮😂), in the bottom. Hillbillies never buy fertilizer. Also we threw kitchen scraps in the fallow side for the animals. Any they didn't eat the worms got at night. I got two merit badges for gardening, regular and advanced. Only adds were dictated by litmus paper. Acidic for tomatoes but clise to nuetral for the rest.

Tried her method and Love it. My lemons are still good after a year. Of course they are refrigerated and they have a little of the salty brine now, but I really like the flavor and I'm still enjoying lemons. OH and I love eating the peel with that tangy salty taste. Nice!

I collect really old cookbooks. I have several from the 1800’s that have pressure canning and water bath canning recipes. I personally do both. I would absolutely water bath can meats if I wasn’t in such high altitude. Water doesn’t boil at the same temperatures in higher altitudes so, that makes me nervous to water bath meats, but I water bath tomatoes, pickled onions, and even heavy cream! I think as long as we use common sense after becoming extremely familiar with canning, we’ll all be fine.

I make huge batches when canning broth. I put huge containers in the fridge for up to two days so I can skim the fat. I don’t heat it up before I can it. I just plop it in jars, put it in a cold pressure canner and bring it to temperature and vent, process! It’s never been a problem. Plus, I’m heating it again when I’m using it.

This recipe was a winner for me. A tall vessel is VERY important to allow the emulsification to happen. I loved this recipe because it includes the whole egg...it was thick, creamy and tasted just like Best Foods, my childhood fave. I also added a half tsp of garlic powder. I'm sure I'll play around with this recipe some, but for a first time, this was excellent!

I'm new to this channel. I'm always surprised when a person uses their name as their KZbin channel because in the beginning it is one of the hardest ways to attract viewers unless you are already well known in other places. Along with your terribly lengthy video titles you have done very well. I'm glad you didn't say in your profile that you're a fifth generation KZbin homesteader because that would have made no sense. I usually like examining a channel more on the analytical and business side than merely the content and value within the video. There's a lot to be said about your channel. How do you predict you will eventually hit a million subscribers. I can imagine cranking out over 350 videos was not easy, though I'm sure you did have help. Keep up the good work and I will certainly keep watching and subscribe. Watching a person's journey from beginning to end is always an interesting one.

Please consider also cold pressed organic coconut or palm oils, Ghee, or rendered animal fat. Filtered bacon grease imparts a pleasant taste, but if one wants a neutral flavored source then obtain “leaf lard” which is the fat which surrounds the pig’s kidneys. Bakers prize rendered leaf lard for the neutral flavor which is used in pie crusts and general baking. The rendering provides total control over the source fat and is easy to produce by placing the lard in souis vide bags and rendering in an Instant pot. Once liquified, the fat may be filtered to obtain a pure product. 😎

A couple tips... Do not put half a layer of compost to level the hole. It will decompose and create a bowl for water to collect and rot the trunk. Flip the sod upside down and use as the first layer just in top of the roots. Loosen the sod first so it is not a solid chunk. Put real (wide) fences around the trees for 3 to 5 years to protect from deer. Well worth the cost in the long run. Prune the tree to grow high over the years. This will delay fruiting, but you will get a tree that will last decades, even with deer around. Put 2' high hardware cloth around trunk to stop voles and long-eared beavers (aka rabbits) from eating the bark. Keep the native soil highest at the trunk and then mulch around so it is like a mound. Dig a slight depression around the outside of the hole (after planting) for water to collect and feed the ends of the roots. Next year fill it in with soil. Mulching on top with compost or aged manure is fine, as long as the soil is slightly higher than the ground level. Remember; that soil in the hole will settle and you do not want a depression around your trunk. It is advisable to top prune freshly planted bare root trees to balance the roots to the top. If a tree is young and has full roots in a pot, this isn't critical. However, most trees in pots are actually bare root plants shovel into a pot with sand before sale. In a nutshell, you want the soil slightly higher around the tree after one year so the trunk stays dry. Very important. All the best with your orchard!

You should be able to fit 20 pieces of wood chips in your hand to have it the right size. I’m taking a horticultural university program for no till gardening and the results were astounding. And compost is just put on top of raised piles. Straw produces perfect enriched soil beneath though if that’s what a person prefers.
