Post round opinion. This course is a great challenge. Don’t expect to come out and Texas wedge shots off the greens because they have mounds, large bunkers, and valleys around most. The bunkers were pure sugar sand. The greens putted true to the practice green. The course is in super nice shape and I enjoyed the variations in the holes. New greens were firm and damn they are large. Bring a range finder for certain because a shot played to the middle of the green could leave a 60’ putt. All the greens have slope and undulations that will test your skills. Practice range was huge with nice grass. Chipping green was added bonus. Practice green large. Multiple rangers on course to speed up play. Starter on weekends. Staff were friendly. Only con is the food. Do not come here hungry. They have chip bags and plain hotdogs. The plain dog was $3.95. They have a full kitchen 🤷‍♀. Green fee is $80. A bit high for a course not near Pinehurst or Fayetteville. 4.25 hour round. This course conditions is as good as most of the Pinehurst Resort courses.

I’m coming to Southern Pines today and have a tee time for Saturday, 05-04-24 at this course. Massively good round from the tips. I’m hoping the conditions are good. Also playing Legacy Links but looks like rain will not allow it.

First played in 1977 when I was in high school. We arrived and saw nothing but cows grazing around the property…..zero homes around. One of the best rounds I ever played was on the South course from the Blue tees, shot 74. This was with persimmon woods and balata balls…now at 63 I miss that guy😁😁😁

You need to move up to the appropriate tees for your ability. The Gold course is difficult from the tips.

Very nice course and especially on a nice weather day with beautiful views. Most of LA won't play the course simply because of the name (Trump) so that makes this course even that much more special.

Rates are $95. I think that is too high for the quality of courses in the area in $50-$70 range. I played it two decades ago. Was going to play it back in the 2023 fall until I saw the price. Went to Deercroft instead for $56.

It is 292 carry to that fairway from the tips, that is INSANE. The average carry on the PGA tour is 280, so with the golf ball rollback they are gonna have to make some major changes to this course layout.

I played this course once. My friend paid the green fees. Good thing because I would went back to the clubhouse on hole one and demanded a refund. Not even close to the standards in the Pinehurst-Southern Pines- Aberdeen area. $175, should be $25.

Not a friendly course for over a 8 handicap. Good shots roll to bad places on the slopes. Not far from Pinehurst. Nothing like Pinehurst conditions.

I have to say I just played this and Whistling in October.and I found Whistling was way tougher. You should check out Sand Valley and Mammoth Dunes, absolute beautiful cores and fun

So to answer your question is this the best course in Charlotte? First Rock Barn is not in the Charlotte area. It’s three counties, 45 miles from Charlotte. Second, the Jackson Course is the second best course at Rock Barn. No way the Jackson course is better than Quail Hollow, Country Club of Charlotte, Trump National in Mooresville, and Myers Park. Even The Denver, NC course Verdict Ridge is more appealing. North Stone in Huntersville, NC just north of Charlotte is a very difficult beautiful tract as well. I have attended 4 PGA Tour events at Quail Hollow and played all the other courses, including both Rock Barn courses (many times). Wall to wall houses, out of bounds stakes on both sides of fairways, and the terrain is super hilly (camera doesn’t really show it). If you walked it you would need an oxygen tank. If you can get on the Jones Course you will find a huge difference in appeal. That second course was a host for a Senior Tour event a half dozen times. The Jones Course is very difficult and has the best cement cart paths I have ever seen.
