Iran was like dubai and japan that was rapidly growing but the 1979 revolution and our stupid grandparents destroyed the bright future of Iran nevertheless Iran is still a great place to visit and people are not like the government and are very welcoming and it's safe to visit. Well, comparing Iran to Japan is a bit of an overstretch. Iran was selling double the amount of oil it sells now, and it had half the population it has today, so it was easy to convert oil money into GDP growth. However, there is no reason to think that Iran was on the same trajectory as some other countries during that era that were about to join the first world, like Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, etc.
