I hate that I watched FoundFlix's video about Malignant before actually seeing it. It had such a great twist, and I would have loved to have seen it without knowing it was coming. Same thing happened way back in the day when someone spoiled The Sixth Sense for me before I saw it. Also, 5:24 Sidenote: I would glaze Kiernan Shipka like a donut.

Came out swinging with Malignant! I love this film so much! My favourite parts of it are the nods to older films and how it built up to it's reveal. It's actually my favourite James Wan film, I know that's controversial 😯 The Blackcoat's Daughter is very underrated as well. As you say, not the best, but it builds so well and I was very intrigued to see what it was going to do. Not seen the Amityville Horror remake since it came out! I'll have a look at it again! I'm the same with the original, I didn't think it was great. It almost felt like a few films stuck together! Carnival of Souls! That's a curveball! I nearly got the Blu-ray from Criterion but passed. Now I'll have to! 🤣 Man, A Ghost Story makes me cry. I struggled with it the first time I saw it but the second time I sat down and paid full attention and it was wonderful. Really, really good way of thinking about it. Glad you gave it an honorable mention 🤘🏻 Oh yeah! I liked Insidious 3! It was well cast and as it built up, it really did well. I really am very harsh on the Insidious films because I thought they showed way too much of the goings on in part 1 and that stuck in my mind for the rest, so my scores might seem very low for them but that doesn't mean I don't like them! Loving these lists! Even if I have to buy most of them because the U.K streaming sucks! 🤣

Cutting the trailer just made me want to watch it again right then 😂. It’s a great film, I can definitely understand it being number 1! I wish we could get a sequel or maybe like something in the same world or style. The story definitely doesn’t need a sequel but I just want to see more. Yeah exactly! It’s not like the greatest thing but it’s got some great atmosphere and as I mentioned I love movies about being left over break at school or places like that! There aren’t nearly enough of those films!!! The remake carries over that feeling of being a couple different films I think but i personally think it works a little better actually. It has some of the 2000s editing and effects but personally I really enjoy it. If you do revisit let me know what you think. It’s quite the vibe!!! I remember the first time I watched it when I was young and it really hit! Going in for the first time I can imagine why it’s hard to engage… especially with that title and cover! I was like hey it keeps popping up so why not mention it 😂 Makes sense, I can definitely understand what you mean. They do show a lot. I actually feel like the 3rd one might be the most “understated” of them… in terms of now showing so much of the world. I know!! So frustrating 🤣. Sorry for all the movies you can’t watch!!! I’ve tried using a VPN before to get other countries but I’ve never really had luck… despite what a bunch of KZbinrs say haha.

@@HorrorViews I know the feeling! As soon as you mentioned it, I bumped it up my rewatch list! You're going to hate me but Death Sentence is my number 2! 😯🤣 I agree, they could really expand the world. Maybe even bring the world of Dead Silence into it as well! I was looking for it to watch again but forgot it's called "February" in the U.K! Oh yes! I love that as well! It's one of the main reasons Halloween H20 works for me. It's a unique situation and I agree, there aren't enough of them! I will keep that in mind. I ordered a nice Blu-ray Mediabook from Germany because it was only £12, think that's about $16? Couldn't pass that up! I do like Ryan Reynolds when he's playing a serious character as well so that helps. I don't mind 2000s editing, it's more functional than the modern style I think. Nice! I just wish it wasn't so expensive! 🤣 I found it on a service called FilmBox, which has a free trial so I can watch it there! My sister made me watch A Ghost Story. She loves more emotionally heavy, surreal films like that. It is a popular one but for the wrong reasons I think! I suppose if it was a KZbin video, it would be attacked as clickbait! Still, once we understand it, we appreciate it. I'll make a point of watching part 3 then. I have found most on Netflix. I think the latest one is missing. Hahahaha! I'm never watching your videos again because you're ruining my bank balance! 😉 Ha! Same here. I followed their instructions to the letter and they still wouldn't work properly!!! Great review! Glad that you went into likes and dislikes and calling out what you noticed. I directed Mirrored and wrote/directed Sloppy Seconds! Really happy to hear you dug what we put together. Also: VERY low budgets throughout! Tech issues and such. BUT, I wanted that to be like “What if I made an episode of Tales From The Crypt?” And I wanted Mirrored to be more like the colorful Creepshow segments. (Both filmed years apart, and just happened to fit what they wanted for Pulp Modern!) I appreciate the review!

I really didn't like Smile. I don't like things were there's literally no way to survive. There has to be a chance of escape! But maybe I'm too stupid to figure it out 😣 What's with the faux pop star concerts in horror films now?! 🤣 The upside down shot from Devil I loved as well, really set the tone. This one looks better than the first though, might have to rewatch the first again!

You know that’s a good point, it doesn’t necessarily make me like it less but it is very bleak. Very interesting huh, 2 horror movies with the fake pop stars being a major part. They might be trying to tell us something with predictive programming about pop stars! Arianna Grande is going to end up being president or something??? Oh now, I've said it now! 😯😯😯 I agree! I do wish I wasn't color blind so the colors in the production design popped a bit more for me but I do like the way it's shot. When I was in school we used to actually learn practical skills and they were teaching us how to wire plugs and I kept mixing up the wires so they sent me for a test and I'm blue/green, red/brown color blind so not good! I wanted to join the Air Force like my granddad as well but you can't if you're color blind 😣 I'm kind of used to it now so I can compensate but when I see those sets of colors next to each other, they all look the same! I didn't know Clark Gregg wrote it! That's cool! Really does have a great, tense atmosphere pretty much all the way through. Made me think something then question it, then think it again a few times! I personally enjoyed Harrison Ford's performance in this. I really enjoyed him in The Age of Adeline, now that is a great fantasy/romance film. Michelle Pfeiffer as well was excellent. This and Batman Returns are great but I really like her in Witches of Eastwick. She played that really well. She's great at switching personalities! I agree completely with your review. You know I much prefer the older style of filmmaking over the modern style! 😎👌🏻Does make me feel super old now though 🤣 Please do a video about the difference between older and modern film scores! That will be great and it's something that has always interested me. Anyone in my family I speak to who is younger than 30 does not watch anything made before 2000 and anything before 2010 they call a "classic film"! What the heck?! I agree, it’s one of my favorite roles from him I think. I think nails it! I did like him in Age of Adeline also but the movie was just decent for me… I think I liked it but I didn’t love it. That’s a great idea for a video! I wish I knew more about music so I could give more in depth detail about scores and how they have changed. I could probably still try to do one but I’m definitely not a music expert haha.

@@HorrorViews Crazy! I see he stopped at 3 writing gigs! But he did well, "Choke" is a good film but I didn't see "Trust Me". I will have to see if I can find it. I'm glad we appreciate it. I'm sure others will give it a try now. If it gets a 4K release, it should get a new lease of life! He's a great actor in most thing but yes, he nails it here. I enjoyed Age of Adeline because I'm a sucker for fantasy stories like that and Blake Lively did an amazing job capturing the age of her character stuck in a younger body. Oh no, sorry, I meant the scores people give films now out of 10! Like you said in the video about older films being rated low when they should be higher. But now you mention film scores, that would be interesting! I'm not a music expert either, but I know what I like! I do think bombastic music is over used these days though and that sometimes takes me out of a film.

I cancelled Paramount + because there were no good horror films on there! Apart from What Lies Beneath, I do enjoy that film a lot! I think it transcends it's PG-13 trappings as well. I thought it was tipping a soft R rating, personally. I also think Robert Zemeckis has a good horror pedigree, comedy horror maybe? His Dark Castle Entertainment was an excellent production company! Ghost Ship and House on Haunted Hill are standouts for me. We can't forget he made Tales from the Crypt as well! I will check out Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, looks good! I really agree with you about Deliver Us from Evil, the atmosphere and detective aspect of it was solid and I'm always happy to see Eric Bana and the exorcism parts did let it down a bit for me but I am going to give it another chance next time I sub to Paramount + I think the best horror/detective film is Fallen. Really creepy all the way through but works as a solid police procedural as well. Disturbia! I recently rewatched it and forgot to update my Letterboxd score! Solid 3/5 for me! I do love Shia in everything because he's great at playing an annoying brat but with an undertone of emotion and reason. He's very underrated I think. Oh dear, dear..... Vacancy..... My cursor is hovering over the unsubscribe button! 😆 Just because I respect you, I will give it another watch and actually pay attention! I think I've always watched this in a daze, expecting it to be something totally different. I do own it on DVD but it's packed away so I better get unpacking! 😎 Great list, as always! 😈😈😈

I'm the exact same as you, not a super fan of these films and we can gang up on your friend now! 🤣🤣🤣 The music pops for me a lot but it's not quite feeling the Giallo. It seems Faux-Giallo at best. I'm a big fan of Mia Goth but here, she doesn't convince me at all! I agree with you that she isn't a victim at all! I think these days it comes down to any kind of "anti-hero", psychotic tendencies or not, is seem as purely a "hero". I always go back to Die Hard with this argument. John McClane is a hero because he killed people to protect others as well as himself. He tried every way possible to get help before being forced into the position of being a killer. MaXXXine seems to be so self obsessed that it almost feels as if she thinks she's perfectly justified in killing anyone she needs to in order to be successful! I prefer the more moral killer 😎

Idk where you get the idea Maxxxine feels she’s justified in killing whoever it’ll take to become a star….? She’s only killed one person, Pearl, which was more than justified and in this movie it looks like she’s being targeted and so will be put in the same situation where she has to defend her life. Really not sure where people get the idea that Maxxxine’s sanity is slipping or that she’s just…killing randomly to become the biggest star except, that was literally Pearl: a character who is supposed to be Maxxxine’s foil.
@BluRayDisplay
@BluRayDisplay 16 сағат бұрын
@@austinm8334 The trailer for MaXXXine just gives me that impression. She did say in the first film that she wants to be famous ("I need to be famous, Wayne.") and that does seem to be her main motivation. She didn't need to kill Pearl. Pearl was down, finished. Running her over was because Pearl was antagonizing MaXXXine and, because he was unstable, she ran her head over. Totally disproportionate response! I don't buy it here. It looks more to me like she's trying to cover something up and killing to keep it quiet. But if I'm wrong, I'm wrong! MaXXXine showed her sanity was slipping when she walked up to Pearl, dying on the ground, and told her to shush!

Not that it's a small cast, but that we've essentially seen all the deaths and action! I hope it's wrong or there is a heck of a lot more to it..... That’s soooo frustrating when that happens!!! I did not but yeah that is a worry. That’s a big worry… I mean we can probably guess what will happen and which character will be the last to go. I think it does it one of the best when it comes to making the ship be a huge character of its own. The “haunted house” vibe as you say. Hahhahahah! Must not have been super important. How do you feel about this one overall?
@darthmuppet
@darthmuppet 17 күн бұрын
Don’t worry. That’s just the announced main cast… there are other characters in the film. The trailer actually shows(a very intentionally blurry shot of) another character that hasn’t been announced yet(it’s one of the shots in the red room with the incubator pods… this character is standing in the background watching the incubator pods with their hands on their hips. It’s 53 seconds into the trailer). Im trying to be as vague as possible as not to spoil anything. Trust me, while the story is fairly simple(early-twenties children of colonists board an abandoned Weyland-Yutani space station to steal the cryo-pods so they can leave their colony world for greener pastures… they find more than they bargained for and mayhem ensues), there’s actually a lot more really cool shit going on than what is shown or hinted at in the trailers.

People have no taste! 🤣 Hahaha! Everything I say is important.... in my opinion.... 🤣🤣🤣 Feeling good about it! I'm never super hyped for the modern stuff, because we have been let down so many times, but this one has more of a chance. If it can give us the same feeling we got from Alien in act 1, then Aliens in act 2, then something new in act 3, I will be fine. I do think though, that it will be 20 mins of Alien then just Aliens for the rest of the film. But I'm alright with that too! What are you thinking after a few days after watching it? Husband and wife get lured to a creepy, secluded place and get picked off either one by one or one if captured and the other is forced to kill or be killed! But then you pulled the twist, you evil genius! 😎 The fact you actually put the real estate website on screen in the first frame destroys any argument of a bait and switch as well and I love that! I liked your script as well because it felt real. Like they were an established couple who had some strains but were working through them and you had me routing for them to survive by the time they reached their destination because the car ride had seemingly pulled them close together again. Was just thinking about this trailer! I'm a big Josh Hartnett fan as well and he actually looks good in this. He did well in Penny Dreadful as well. I know what you mean about that overhead shot. It's not something we normally see, kind of a peak behind the curtain of what the characters are up to. I actually think we need more of that to put the audience in the scene with them. Rather than plain old establishing shots, they are boring now! M. Night does really well with ludicrous ideas doesn't he! I think this is going be a "root for the killer" type movie! I'm excited for it, actually. Didn't think I would be. My favourite is going to be controversial! It's not a film he directed but wrote.... Devil! I love that film! It never gets old for me for some reason! But if I had to choose a film he directed, it would be The Sixth Sense as well. I wish I could watch that for the first time again! What an experience!

Penny Dreadful is one I still haven’t seen but want to Primally because of Josh!! Definitely!!! His best films have that I think. I remember a few specific shots in the sixth sense where the camera is behind shelving or things to make you feel like you’re peaking in almost. He does and I appreciate that about him, he’s always trying new things and swinging for the fences hahha. Devil is super underrated, great pick! That’s one that I was going to throw on a list here soon actually. So many films I wish I could revisit for the first time… I hate that the village was ruined for me before I could ever see it. 😭

@@HorrorViews Ohhhhhhhhh! You'll dig it, I'm sure of it! Got a serious, gothic horror vibe. Oh yes! I love that! We don't see it often enough! I watched Signs again the other day and whilst I struggled to get into it as much as I did before, it has some amazing shots like that. The reflections in the TV are most welcome and actually feeling like we are on the floor with Mel Gibson when he's looking at the alien. Excellent! Ha! Yeah, doesn't always succeed, but when he does, he scores a home run! Thanks man! I love it and I watch it quite regularly and still get something new out of it every time! I like how it's like an ever accelerating rollercoaster! Love it! Oh yes, please review it if you have time or if you don't want to, give me a mini review on a message! 🤣 Oh no 😞 I hate when that happens. I've had that a few times and I always want the earth to swallow up the person who told me. One ending I ruined for myself because I saw it coming a mile off was The Others. It signposts itself all the time! One reason I try to let a film just roll out in front of me now but I struggle not to analyse them!

@BluRayDisplay Yes and I think that’s one of the reasons I’ve always tried to support M Night… he’s not just a director for hire churning out trash. He’s at least trying to be unique and creative. I need to revisit signs. I’ll add that to the list to review! I can tell I probably won’t give as I depth of a review as you’d like but I’ll rewatch it and add it to the list!!! 😂 That’s very interesting… I wonder if I saw the others for the first time now if I’d figure it out. I do feel like it’s not as strong of a twist upon rewatch years later however the atmosphere actually works better than when I was a kid I think. Or maybe I appreciate the story more I guess… aspects are better and other aspects are worse hahaha.

Hahahahaha! Thanks! I think.... 🤣 I think now you would. All that knowledge of the genre and seeing similar films ends up ruining others! Oh definitely, I do love the atmosphere of it, really does drag you in. If it was in 4:3 it would be even better! 🤣 Sorry, couldn't help myself! Yeah, when I saw Sam Jackson get eaten in the middle of his speech in Deep Blue Sea, I took it as a comedic beat rather than a shocking one. Because we all wanted him to shut up! 🤣 I'm going to listen to your spoilers because I really don't think I'm going to watch any of these. Maybe the second film is going to be a rip off of Halloween 2 but from the sound of it, it will throw it all away and just be a remake of a remake of a remake! Who the heck decided The Strangers of all things could handle a reboot?! 🤣
@HorrorViews
@HorrorViews 26 күн бұрын
I mean it was definitely a pivotal character choice for Jackson in that moment 😂. Ugh I don’t know… I just hate that 3 movies get money to be made and some writers and directors with great ideas can’t get anything made. That’s the most frustrating part to me personally with all these waste of time films. It’s hilarious when you actually break it down and think about really… kind of wish I had said this but the whole premise of the original is good because there isn’t any back story. Because you were home is the core concept of the film… no rhyme or reason and then someone thought you know what would be good?! 2 more films worth of information hahaha.

@@HorrorViews Hahahaha! Yeah, but he didn't even get in his trademark curse word! 😣🤣 Totally agree with you. Do you think if they hadn't managed to get Renny Harlin that the 3 movies would still have gone ahead? Also, who the heck read the script for this first one and decided it could be the backbone of a trilogy?! There must be something very interesting coming up in the next two! Hahahaha! Exactly right! It's a solid, stand alone concept that works! I think they went wrong with Leatherface as well. The first TCM is a classic. Just drop a load of kids in the middle of hell and let it play out. Then they had to go make prequels and ruin it! I know people seem to love the Rob Zombie Halloween as well but I hated it, I didn't need any of the evil child Michael Myers. To me, the 1978 original where he kills his sister then the clown mask comes off and Michael's expression as a child was a vacant stare, was perfection.

Big, big fan of Maika Monroe so I've been looking forward to this for a while! I think the trailer might be giving away a little bit too much but we will have to wait and see! I'm sure the voice is Nicolas Cage as well! He's built for this kind of role I think. He can be creepy as heck sometimes! I'm thinking the same about the way the film might go. It looks like it has a through story with the FBI investigation but then the obvious flashbacks to Maika's childhood might be part of some kind of reveal that she's a serial killer as well or her trauma created Longlegs maybe? I need to stop thinking about it or I will ruin it for myself! 🤣 Cuckoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah exactly though! It has the makings of what could be something like that. Sometimes that works but I feel like it’s also a cop out a lot of the time. @@HorrorViews There are some mighty similar seeming films these days but this trailer knocks it out of the park! When you see it again, you'll instantly know! Same! I can't imagine, in a film like this, that they will give the whole plot away. It's on for 1 hour 41 so they got a lot of time to show us a lot more! Hahahaha! Yeah, lets hope he keeps it all on the film set.... 😮 I fell it's a cop out too. Most of the time they can't pull it off and it seems very lazy. I'm hoping it's so far out of left field that we never see any of it coming! It has Silence of the Lambs, Se7en, Zodiac vibes so it's got a good chance. It sounds good on paper but the trailer didn't really grab me much. It's another that might be style over substance. I didn't always mind that but as I was watching it, it just seemed to throw out a montage of scenes pulled from other films! But I don't pay much attention to film scores these days! This is going to make or break our friendship dude..... 😥🤣 The thing I like most about Scream 6 is the opening as well. I actually really felt Samara Weaving was like a real person! I felt genuinely bad when she died! The whole rest of it was lame and almost supernatural..... The train scene was utter trash. I can't even talk about Kirby. She was my favourite character of the whole franchise until part 6! I'm glad I don't own 5 and 6! When I watched Scream 3 again for the new 4K, I wasn't expecting to like it so much but now it really rocks! As you say, the time it was made held it back somewhat and all the messing about after script leaks means we might have had a much better film but it's still cracking I think! The way they did the misdirection of Roman pretending to be dead in the coffin works far better than the attempted misdirection in part 6. How dare you say It's A Wonderful Knife is terrible! 🤣🤣🤣 I felt Wes Craven had the most fun time he's ever had with part 4. It actually is my number 1 right now and has been for a while but I'm exactly the same as you! I'm changing my top 3 all the time! They are ALL masterpieces to me! Well said about the reveal in Scream! That's the mastery of Kevin Williamson's writing! He nailed it completely and that pure, deep understanding of the horror genre allowed him to completely subvert it in a way that I don't think can ever be done again! Scream 2 succeeds because of Randy's arc. Not a single thing in film history hit me as hard as that because I'd never seen it done before! It flips the entire tone in seconds and I was almost in a daze for the rest of the movie. No one can touch it these days! 1: Scream 4, 2: Scream, 3: Scream 2, 4: Scream 3, 5: Scream 6, 6: Scream (5?!) 🤣

🤣 I knew our list was pretty close when I made this so I wasn’t worried! 😂 Very well said! Exactly! She actually felt like a real person! It’s like they actually tried to write good dialogue for her 😂. It definitely is better than people give it credit for. I think if it came out today the reaction would be different. Yes definitely a better misdirection also and again intentional for the ability to move through the house and kill without having to be in 2 places at once. Meant to throw the characters off his trail as well as the audience. Had to throw another dig in at IAWK 😉 hahahah. I feel that also, it definitely feels like the fun comes through on screen in scream 4! It deserves a place as number one on your list in my opinion! It definitely is my favorite at times. Yes! Well said, the tone of scream 2 totally changes but in a positive way meaning we take that kill very seriously! That one hit me too, that whole scene is so good. See our list is very close! Or at least closer than some others 😂. Honestly these movies mean a great deal to me so I’m happy to finally have done a ranking even though it’s a very simple video haha. I wanted to try and do it justice. It is pretty incredible that there are so many fans of the series both new and old still. Even if they only got into for the new ones haha.

@@HorrorViews Hahahaha! Nice! 😎 Can you imagine them expelling all their creative energy into writing Samara's character and making that one scene then just coasting for the rest of the production?! That's what it seemed like! 🤣 As you say, it's meant to throw us off as well! But people these days don't seem to like that, I don't know why. But yes, much better than most people say. I was always mad about them killing Cotton at the beginning because I was hoping to see more of him but the more I watch it, the more it's perfect! When I'm president, I'm going to mandate every child learns in school that IAWK is a masterpiece of horror cinema. Then you'll be sorry! 🤣🤣🤣 Wes did always inject that fun element, didn't he. But Scream 4 really has it a lot more. I'm seeing more people take a look his other films now and appreciating them a lot more which is good. Yeah exactly! Randy had given his sequel rules, carnage candy, but no mention that anyone can die! With him dying being the one who has the greatest chance of surviving, all bets are off. Agreed. The opening shot of the scene, right out in the open and looking like they are safe, really makes us drop our guard and we would think there's no chance of getting caught. Then how it plays out works in a realistic way! It really makes me mad how they could do it so easily over 20 years ago and now they can't figure it out! What's happened!? Yeah man, we certainly know the score with this franchise! I actually have a bit of hope for Scream 7, or whatever it will be called! My dude, you certainly did do them justice! The transitions between films is excellent! The simpler the better because you're focused on talking about the films instead of being distracted! It is great, even if some of these young ones will never think the originals are as good as the new ones! 😮 Love your lamp in the background as well. Being slightly out of focus like that is so cool! 😎 I hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend!
