6:30 what happened here? I don't understand, the rally looks like it's happening cleanly, all shots in, and then suddenly on Arnold's very good drop Staksrud scoops up the ball, Arnold protests vociferously, and ... Staksrud wins the point? I don't see how...

Didn't they call a fault on Newman for that broken paddle at 7:30 it dropped onto the kitchen line and was ruled a NVZ violation because it happened after a volley I think? Bizarre call because he was clearly balanced with no forward momentum before the paddle head landed, so the momentum rule should have been over/irrelevant from that volley and they should have won the point as the opponents hit the next shot out.

Great observation! You’re absolutely right that it was a bizarre call. The NVZ violation rule can be tricky, especially in situations like this. If Newman was balanced and there was no forward momentum, the broken paddle landing shouldn't technically affect the play since it’s after the volley. It’s unfortunate the point was ruled against them, especially when the next shot went out. These kinds of calls always spark debate and show how much clarity the sport still needs in its rule enforcement!

@@PickleballRoom Seems to me like it's a forward movement issue. If the forward movement into the kitchen starts after the volley (and not during the volley), it's independent of the volley and thus no violation.

Pickleball is basically mini tennis I play for warm up before tennis LOL I am sure it can be quite intense. I am just saying.
