How do you do the sword dodges do you have to be in a specific position? Or is it something else?

Because I play on PS5 and I try doing it and I kinda mess up but I only get it when the city watch guard dashes at you and he swings his sword and I duck that's the only one I know but how do you dodge other sword attacks?

Legit how I beat the final boss on the 2nd game. We were by the edge I blocked an attack she fell over. Boom she was dead.
