I would say that blade of selves is a good inclusion in a deck like this.

Interesting! That would be a good include if you wanted to always control the Survivors as they are created since Varchild is Legendary, the tokens would immediately be sacrificed without something removing the legend rule (like Mirror Box). Personally I like letting my opponents have them (since they can't attack me anyway) and it makes Grand Melee more fun!

A good question! for a while it was because I had art the I liked and I didn't have a reason not to. I have since removed the Command Tower in place of a basic land, but (at least in my local playgroup) I never regretted having it in the list.
