If I understand this correctly, there’s No zenith shot need, if the camera is tilted 7.5 degrees up. Correct? I guess with some loss in quality, or? Can the camera be tilted back to look up, or is the tilt limited on the R1?

If you use a fisheye lens, say a Sigma 8mm on a crop camera, there is no need for Zenith shot.

A note for first time users. When editing the preset mine came up with 12Sh rather than 50mm. pressing the Up an Down button got me to 50mm

Question: how do I change from step by step in the UI mode to continue without next/pause? Does it work with the left button on the C2?
@dxn-fanotec1127
@dxn-fanotec1127 3 ай бұрын
Yes, it works with the left and right buttons on the C2. When MECHA executes a preset and you press [left], it will pause and switch to step-by-step mode. Then, you can advance one position at a time with the [right] button on C2. Or, after you get past the problematic areas, such as the middle row with people, you can advance and exit step-by-step mode by pressing the [left] button on C2.

Thanks for clarifying. We will use it for focus bracketing (for focus stacking). This seems to be the way to do it…

MECHA is a unique player in the panoramic market: it's a highly polished product, and with constant and ongoing updates, it's hard to imagine a more professional device. The only downside is that the overall usage of the device can be a bit difficult, which makes it very difficult to attract new users. It would be great if they could keep all the professional features and make it more accessible to beginners. I hope it continues to evolve into a product that newcomers can imagine "If I use MECHA, I can do this!". I'm a longtime fan of nodal ninja and wish mecha the best of luck.

Much appreciated you went to the trouble of doing this. Thank you. Still a bit hazy about the 2 axis slider. Maybe a video in the future focusing solely on that would be helpful. Am I correct that it will shoot a Square area of 40/-40 to 40/-40 and the "10" means 10 positions or 10 degrees? Is it then shooting 8 rows by 8 columns? Or is is the Axis graphic not representative of the pattern? Or does it automatically calculate the correct number of rows and columns with overlap?

The way I see it, accessing a web server over wifi is rather clunky as you will often need wifi for other things. Wouldn't it be better to move the UI processing to a mobile app and do the data transfer over Bluetooth? You wouldn't need to do all the work over again as many app environments can load web page data to the UI. And then you could use the processing you save on the mecha for more advanced functionality, or for saving a bit of battery.

Thank you for the feedback. The MECHA web UI allows you to set and save presets, which can then be launched from buttons for efficient battery life management. You can also save entire presets and commands as URLs, allowing you to easily bookmark and access them later. When using the buttons, you can even turn off Wi-Fi to conserve power and only use it when necessary. This feature enables you to quickly recall and execute pre-defined sequences, even when offline. Additionally, you can have the MECHA connected to your phone's AP, use your phone as usual, and check the status or send commands to the MECHA on its client address.

This is an interesting feature. What is the distance between Mecha 1 and Mecha 2 that can be safely used?
@NodalNinja
@NodalNinja Жыл бұрын
MECHAs are wirelessly connected in chain, e.g. 1>2>3>4 you can access 192.168.8.1/wifitest to test the distance from one particular MECHA. For an extended range, all MECHAs can be connected to a router or a mesh network (made of many routers even, with some wires between), in config you can set the WiFi Power to 100.

You say: Select a crop factor, or FF, which stands for Full Frame. I ask: what about medium format sensors (33x44, 40x53,4)?
@dxn-fanotec1127
@dxn-fanotec1127 2 жыл бұрын
In the select list, FF means 1.0 crop factor to a Full Frame set in MECHA's 192.168.8.1/config where by default is 36mm height and 24mm width, in portrait orientation, you can either change those values in config to, say, 53 height and 40 width while keeping FF in list or let the values unchanged and provide focal length in 36/24 equivalent e.g. instead of 28mm enter 18mm , that said, will be possible in future FW updates to enter a custom crop factor, like 0.65 and such.
@dxn-fanotec1127
@dxn-fanotec1127 2 жыл бұрын
Update:starting with FW (1)2361 there is an extended crop factor list which includes the medium format and point-and-shoot cameras, there is also custom value possible in the web UI.

This might be of interest: The August, 1990 issue of Popular Photography had an article about shooting parallax-free panoramas with 35mm film cameras. It was the first time I saw a discussion about lens nodal points. Single row panos, and a homemade camera holder (I found an “L” bracket binocular adapter worked better than their setup), and a focus rail to center the node over the head’s axis (again, I found just tilting the “L” bracket backwards worked as well). The main concern was the stitching (darkroom, enlarger, or taping prints together - no computers) indoors, and outdoors with nearby objects. Multiple rows could be done by tilting the camera, then raising or lowering the tripod center shaft to put the lens back at the same height. I did a few panos by cutting prints and taping them together. I have the magazine but I also found the article online. August, 1990, Popular Photography, headline - “SHOOT PANORAMAS WITH ANY 35MM CAMERA.” Not sure, but I think Amazon had the article. Side note - they mentioned lenses having two nodal points, one near the lens mount, and one near the front, sometimes a point physically a short distance in front of the lens. I thought the “rear nodal point” might be worth looking for, but have not been able to find it on any lens, at least with regard to shooting panoramas. If true, that could make some setups less cumbersome.

No one explains if you can move your tripod from this point. Also, do you need to do this everytime you move to another room within a home?
@dxn-fanotec1127
@dxn-fanotec1127 2 жыл бұрын
The parallax point is specific for your lens(zoom) and shooting pattern, once you had found it, and set the rail or rail stop accordingly, you don't need to find it again, unless you change the lens or change the zoom. i.e. is good for other room and another, so on.
@noopynnus
@noopynnus 2 жыл бұрын
What if I have a zoom lens? Does the no-parallax point change as the focal length change?
@dxn-fanotec1127
@dxn-fanotec1127 2 жыл бұрын
Best is to check for each focal length you want to use, as you need to be sure on overlapping area there is no parallax, at different zoom you have different overlapping areas, also the shooting method is changed, e.g. from 6 around to 8 around at longer focal length.
