I was stationed with my military husband there from 91 until 93. I saw the yellow tape on the elevator when I went in to get paperwork done that winter. Scared me enough not to ride them for the first year I was there.

Not surprising considering the ethnic English are partially originally German from the Anglo-Saxons. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇩🇪

Me too. I was in boy scouts, summer camp, and the school drama club. There used to be a bike trail on base that led to a cool fishing spot.

Lived in New Argonner from 86-88…. Attended Hanau HS for a short time when it was grades 7 through 12, I left only a few months before the middle school had opened. It was a shame because Hanau was starting to become quite awesome during the late 80s.

Yep, everything is different. Class of '93 and still living here. Lamboy and Argonner has been taken over and living areas, shops and offices have popped up. Very lively but so different and Hanau itself has changed so much, most wouldn't recognize many places anymore.

I was thereis 1981 to 1984, 101 Airborne Divison, My first taste of Italian food was at Tony's(Rigatoni was my first bowl), Wow!! many years later I married an Italian, and I am full blooded German, my family was from around Hanau, I spoke german too as my second language. I love it there, I hate to say it but I hated the Army. A personal reason why, has to do with my grandfather. I always loved Germany, I never wanted to leave but I am an American citizen. I still have family here in Germany. Thank you so much for this video.

My son and family were based in Stuttgart a few years ago. The Army and Air Force no longer provided medical services. Daughter in law had to go to a German hospital for prenatal and birth.

I was stationed at Gibbs Kaserne (1968-69) as a member of Co. C. 308th S & S BN. Our motor pool (2 1/2 ton truck Co.) was adjacent to the rear entrance of the Gibbs Housing Area. Our afternoon formation often was conducted as the high school students would walk through the Kaserne to reach their housing area. Often during the time I was stationed there during an afternoon formation, the PLT SGT reminded his platoon ......."10 will get you 20." He explained - 10 minutes "of pleasure" with any of the dependent girls would get you 20 years at Manheim, the Army stockade for Germany.

We stayed here- in these exact barracks back in 1983- 1986. Edit: I literally used to run directly across this field freely running wildly!! It was BEAUTIFUL! We stayed on the von Steuben side. We did not have balconies/patios at the time and we used to lock ourselves outside our apartments because when the doors closed, they automatically locked. I also remember the basement!

In the late 50s when serving in the army in Germany, Elvis Presley visited the son of a fellow soldier who was stricken with polio. This event was covered and widely publicized. Less known is the fact that it took place at Platenstrasse housing!

Thanks for that. We lived there when I was in the 2nd grade til the 6th grade we got there in 1988 and left in 1992. I have some good memories from there. I remember riding my bike over that bridge into the woods and just explore. And the party's my parents use to throw. Good memories of me and my sister. It kinda sucks to see most of it gone but good to see all the additional housing the space it has. I remember the building being so spread apart. I've never seen another apartment complex like it. But then again it wasn't so much of a complex. More of than of military housing. Thanks

I loved your message at the beginning of the video. So many people fell for the Covid scam. There should be repercussions for what they put us through. Now they are pulling the vax off the markets... my wife and I knew better than to take the poison. Anyway. I was on Fliegerhorst from 1989 to 1991. Just visited in 2022. Barely recognized some of it. Same with Pioneer and Wolfgang. Time sure flies, but change never stops.

Thank you for the trip down memory lane. We have family trips there as mom/sister go to the commissary and Dad/the boys go to the PX, mainly books and comics. Still one newsstand comic I'm missing to this day from Sept 2001. Shipments got tight then, it exist since the next 2 years they delivered but never saw that months comic.

We used to call this park Sha it park, because of all the sha it going on there. Mostly because of all the local druggies who hung out there under that one tree. This was early 1980s and there was this woman there, a nice looking woman in that group who had lesions all over her body, something we later knew to be AIDS, everyone knew to keep their distance for some reason knew something wasnt right. Ah, the fun times! Bonus was the topless woman sunbathing we were able gawk at....something you'd never see in the US!
