@@UKFluorescentMineralHunter it’s not my opinion, coastal protection act 1949 , the law said so, and if you grew up on the coast you would now it. I’m not a collector either, I’ve fished of the Norfolk coast all my life and have had countless arguments with people, who think they can take what they want of the beach. And it’s normally late at night or early in the morning ,funny that they turn up when it’s quiet, don’t you think

So YUGE 🤣The deep blue edge zoning on the larger crystals is real nice. I think the orange is probably organic hydrocarbons. If you have a small piece you can test by heating to very high temperature and it will destroy them. Also give a chance to observe the thermoluminescence of the fluorite.
@UKFluorescentMineralHunter

Haha yes this one is a little big lol 🤣 If this one ain't enough to satisfy me then i don't know what is! Interesting, i have some smaller chunks which have the same fluorescence, i shall put a piece in the oven and observe.... what kind of temp do think would do it?
@Muonium1
@Muonium1 25 күн бұрын
@@UKFluorescentMineralHunter perhaps 500F? That should excite the thermoluminescence anyway, may not be enough to destroy the hydrocarbons though. If it's an electric, the glow from the heating coils may prevent easy observation of the TL light. I'd only use a small piece and definitely wear goggles if handling, the hydrocarbons may build up enough pressure inside as they vaporize and cause it to explode! A torch to heat a piece will work, but a full face shield and heavy cotton clothes will be necessary.

Love that effect of the visible LED turning it gray. It really shows the activator is europium fluorescing at 420nm in the blue, and since white LEDs are made using blue emitter chips producing 450nm light, they cannot excite the fluorescence! Very nice. I would love a specimen like this from there but all the pieces are so expensive in the US.

@UKFluorescentMineralHunter 29 күн бұрын
@@richardbaker2300 Thank you, glad you like it. It is a Limestone quarry, some of the best Fluorite in the UK comes from there, i will visit the area soon as i can and hopefully find something nice, although this sample you see came from deep inside the mine, the quarry may not produce such quality, but we shall see when the time comes. I have not had much success in gravel or sand quarries to be honest, usually find just shell fossils and flint, maybe the odd bit of quartz or chalcedony but its never in nice crystal form. @UKFluorescentMineralHunter Ай бұрын
I haven't actually found any amber yet, thought i would have by now, but the trouble is these days is that the wind farms out at sea seem to tame the tides a bit reducing the amount of amber washed up, i live in Norfolk which has been nutorious for finding amber, but since they put up the sea defence it appears hardly any amber is washed up here aswell, finding decent amber now seems like a thing of the past sadly, maybe why it's so expensive, but i'll always be keeping my eyes out for it because i know people do still find the odd bit now and then. The Suffolk coast can apparently be good for collecting amber in a windy rough sea, never been to Suffolk but maybe one day. Take care and enjoy the vids 👍⛏💎❤

Neato, we have this near me too at Saratoga Springs state park. Looks like exactly the same stuff. Except here it's highly carbonated water from a deep spring and the water and tufa is seriously radioactive from radium. I collected the carbon dioxide from one of the springs and measured it with a radon detector and it was many dozens of times higher than normal 3-4 picocuries per liter background level. I wanted to check for phosphorescence last time I was there but didn't have time to go back after dark unfortunately. I'm sure it looks exactly like this though.
@UKFluorescentMineralHunter
@UKFluorescentMineralHunter 5 ай бұрын
WOW that is amazing to hear!! You have Tufa near you! that is really cool, and it's radioactive you say? Holy moly thats MADDD!! I just checked my sample of Tufa but it is not radioative, shame as my magic wand would have been even more magic haha! But no, really im chuffed it's not radioactive lol. So if the spring & Tufa at Saratoga are high radioactive.... im wondering if this has any influence on the fluorence, like mad green fluor tufa? can you imagine that? is it possible do you think due to the uranium traces? you gotta go back there when you can and please please let me know everything lol! I'm going back to the terraces real soon and i'm gonna take a 'fluorescent' water sample because as you mentioned the water itself is fluoro, isn't it just crazy! Off camera i just sat there with my safety glasses on in UV staring deeply at it, hypnotic at it's best, i was totally amazed by all, i also want to do a proper phosphorescence on the big tufa walls there and do a little 'shorts' video if i can, i only had the 1 uv torch on me that night sadly (strapped to the camera frame). But i shall also test the water sample for phosphorescence and let you know, presumably the particles will settle at the bottom after a while, so it would be like shake 'n' fluoresce kind of thing haha! The bright blue and the white fluorescent Tufa has the most strongest phosphorescence, really powerful. I'd love to send you a water sample if you would like a UK sample if customs would allow liquids to pass? So you have....Radioative Tufa WOW!! Muonium my friend you are a legend! Thank you my friend, i have been to Fall Hill Quarry and had a lovely time, didn't fluorescent hunt it though, but it is on the list, it's tough to find things in there as the juicy vein is under dangerous waters now, but if you dig around a bit you may strike it lucky like i did once, i found a 35'ish kg suspicious rock that i cracked open, one half had a beautiful sheet of clear 1cm cubed fluorite and on the other half was a stunning sheet of quartz 5mm clear points, a bit like the style of dogtooth calcite, but this stuff scratched glass. I've been back a few times since but had no such luck, they were smelting in there by the looks of it, hope they left some crystal behind! I checked out Gregory mine also, a beautiful place to visit, however the spoil heaps have been depleted so much i really didn't find anything great up there, was all very very worn and weathered, never got to see the entrance to the mine if there is one, but it's a nice place to mooch about for a bit. Check out Moss Rake when you can, there are three sections to it, i tried the 1st section but is used heavily by bikes, the second one is fun, there is an old mine entrance in there but is blocked off a little way in, tons of Barite there, it shall be my next vid hopefully, when the weather has calmed down a little. Ladywash Mine was once good, but it is difficult to obtain awesome specimens now, again dig dig dig and hope for the best ⛏👍💎 Take care my friend, thanks for your comment!!
