Margaret didn’t marry the king of Portugal. She married James IV of Scotland when she was 13. James was 17 years older then her. Her sister Mary married at 18 to Louis, king of France he was 52. Louis died 2 months later.

Very bad depiction of the Portuguese Court that was in its heyday , the Portuguese King depicted never existed it had to be D.Manuel I that never married any English princess , the court seems very somber r giving a cliché of a backward country , the presence of the Catholic clergy has a tone of religious prejudice , as England choose to cut ties with Rome, a Portuguese King would not push an ambassador ,aside even more from a country which is to this day our oldest ally and the Treaty of Windsor is the oldest treaty between two European nations in European history . Good piece of television cannon fodder for ignorant viewers . In terms of educational accuracy very bad rated indeed. The Portuguese were the trailblazers of the sea the English came later and that because of the annexation of Portugal by Spain due to the death of King D. Sebastião in combat in Ksar el Kebir in 1578 we the oldest friends in Europe became enemies , thus we began a long downfall and England began arising under Elizabeth´s I Golden Age . The producers of the series should read some real history books .

The Count of Monte Cristo is not an invention. The man in flesh and blood who inspired Alexandre Dumas for the figure of Edmond Dantès was his father, Thomas Alexandre Davy de la Pailleterie known as "General Dumas", who in 1799 was imprisoned in the Aragonese Castle of Taranto, which in the famous novel became the Castel d'If. Precisely in the Aragonese Castle of Taranto on 10 September 2020 an exhibition curated by Tonio Attino was inaugurated with illustrations by Nico Pillinini, a narrative path that describes the Taranto imprisonment of the Napoleonic officer, transformed into a literary hero by his son. The exhibition is always open: we are waiting for you !! Other news on the FB page "Francesco Ma".

Despite being a good series, this episode presents several historical and chronological errors. In the period in question, Portugal governed a young king of 20 years (D. João III) and his predecessor (D. Manuel I) died at the age of 52. That is to say, besides having never been a marriage between D. Margarida and a Portuguese king and no Portuguese king having been murdered by a sister of King Henry VIII, there are other very serious errors in this episode, which reveal ignorance and ignorance by the direction of the series. Portugal was at the time of its international boom, at the time of the Discoveries, colonization, maritime discoveries, and if there was anything that did not exist in the Portuguese Cortes of the sixteenth century was misery, filth, blackness, poverty and, in this case, an old king like represented in the series (E4/T1). Note that it was a low maneuver by the accomplishment, something that should not happen in a series of History.

This shit is completely false and offensive. Besides, our king is not like that, nor is our court. And I didn't even understand what he said. D. Manuel, who never married her, was a great and rich king, and one of the few who educated his own children and truly loved them. His daughters were some of the most eloquent girls of the time. This is not a mistake. It's an insult. And I wouldn't be surprised if it was because we were from the South and Catholic. The most ridiculous thing is that King Henry is an authentic "Hollywood model" when he was a bloodthirsty, obese idiot. D. Manuel died early. He was a promoter of the arts, peace, modernity. It is from him that the kings of Italy descend. Emanuel the I.

Well given the time period that Margaret Tudor was alive the Portuguese King being portrayed in this scene would have been King Manuel I of Portugal. Manuel ruled Portugal from 1495-1521 so if Margaret was in her 20's at this time then Manuel would have been somewhere around 40-50 years old, so this is about right. And although I can't speak about the portrayal of the Portuguese language shown in this scene, I can tell you that based on the extensive reading and research I've done on the Kingdom of Portugal this is not an accurate portrayal of Manuel. It's highly unlikely that he would have acted in such an uncouth and disrespectful manner, especially with high-ranking members of the English royal family which Portugal has maintained a close alliance with since Manuel's great-grandfather King John I of Portugal began an alliance with John of Gaunt from the House of Lancaster. Manuel was a true Renaissance king, he was known to be a refined and chivalrous man, his reign marked the beginning of the Portuguese Renaissance and he also heavily pursued Portuguese exploration. His reign is regarded as the golden age of Portuguese history and his court was a center of chivalry, art and science. So it's highly unlikely he would have acted as shown in this scene.

Caterine of Braganza married a English King from a treaty of both nations and was thanks to her and portugal that england began to dominate the world, was the first steps, when Portugal gave the city of Tangiers North Africa, Bombain and Mumbai to England, was from there that english started to conquer India, and other settlements that Portuguese gave to England together with maps from other parts of the world specially Australia, while that Caterine incorporated the traditional afternoon tea still in pratice by the actual queen, and taugh the english nobles eating with cuttlery and in porcelain plates, at the time she arrived they were eating with their own hands and in silver plates. This is what English people should know but are hiden due to their national pride.
