Margaret didn’t marry the king of Portugal. She married James IV of Scotland when she was 13. James was 17 years older then her. Her sister Mary married at 18 to Louis, king of France he was 52. Louis died 2 months later.

Very bad depiction of the Portuguese Court that was in its heyday , the Portuguese King depicted never existed it had to be D.Manuel I that never married any English princess , the court seems very somber r giving a cliché of a backward country , the presence of the Catholic clergy has a tone of religious prejudice , as England choose to cut ties with Rome, a Portuguese King would not push an ambassador ,aside even more from a country which is to this day our oldest ally and the Treaty of Windsor is the oldest treaty between two European nations in European history . Good piece of television cannon fodder for ignorant viewers . In terms of educational accuracy very bad rated indeed. The Portuguese were the trailblazers of the sea the English came later and that because of the annexation of Portugal by Spain due to the death of King D. Sebastião in combat in Ksar el Kebir in 1578 we the oldest friends in Europe became enemies , thus we began a long downfall and England began arising under Elizabeth´s I Golden Age . The producers of the series should read some real history books .

The Count of Monte Cristo is not an invention. The man in flesh and blood who inspired Alexandre Dumas for the figure of Edmond Dantès was his father, Thomas Alexandre Davy de la Pailleterie known as "General Dumas", who in 1799 was imprisoned in the Aragonese Castle of Taranto, which in the famous novel became the Castel d'If. Precisely in the Aragonese Castle of Taranto on 10 September 2020 an exhibition curated by Tonio Attino was inaugurated with illustrations by Nico Pillinini, a narrative path that describes the Taranto imprisonment of the Napoleonic officer, transformed into a literary hero by his son. goddamn i last saw this in 2004, haven't watched it since. i did enjoy the movie (tis one of my favourite books) though i can barely remember anything aside from a flash or two of guy pierce, luis guzman and jim caviziel. could not for the life of me remember who played albert until i became a proper henry cavill fan in 2012. i thought he looked like a kid. thats the only reason why i did not fall madly in love with him back then. he really does look 15 years old or thereabouts in this. handsome as fuck then, even worse now...

Well given the time period that Margaret Tudor was alive the Portuguese King being portrayed in this scene would have been King Manuel I of Portugal. Manuel ruled Portugal from 1495-1521 so if Margaret was in her 20's at this time then Manuel would have been somewhere around 40-50 years old, so this is about right. And although I can't speak about the portrayal of the Portuguese language shown in this scene, I can tell you that based on the extensive reading and research I've done on the Kingdom of Portugal this is not an accurate portrayal of Manuel. It's highly unlikely that he would have acted in such an uncouth and disrespectful manner, especially with high-ranking members of the English royal family which Portugal has maintained a close alliance with since Manuel's great-grandfather King John I of Portugal began an alliance with John of Gaunt from the House of Lancaster. Manuel was a true Renaissance king, he was known to be a refined and chivalrous man, his reign marked the beginning of the Portuguese Renaissance and he also heavily pursued Portuguese exploration. His reign is regarded as the golden age of Portuguese history and his court was a center of chivalry, art and science. So it's highly unlikely he would have acted as shown in this scene.

br3menPT Absolutely. It is a totally inaccurate portrayal of Manuel I of Portugal. He was a highly cultured, chivalrous, and educated king. If it was suppose to be Louis XI of France then I could believe it!

I totally agree with you! I'm Portuguese and the way they portraited Manuel I is just horrible. He was known to be not just a good king, but also a good husband. And that Portuguese... Shouldn't they have put a Portuguese actor doing that role?

é....pena que estejas a misturar século XIX com século XVI onde Portugal tinha a maior, mais faustosa e exuberante corte europeia que punha no chinelo a corte inglesa. Corte essa onde as pessoas viviam de rendas tal como na idade média....perdeste uma boa oportunidade para ficar calado. Caterine of Braganza married a English King from a treaty of both nations and was thanks to her and portugal that england began to dominate the world, was the first steps, when Portugal gave the city of Tangiers North Africa, Bombain and Mumbai to England, was from there that english started to conquer India, and other settlements that Portuguese gave to England together with maps from other parts of the world specially Australia, while that Caterine incorporated the traditional afternoon tea still in pratice by the actual queen, and taugh the english nobles eating with cuttlery and in porcelain plates, at the time she arrived they were eating with their own hands and in silver plates. This is what English people should know but are hiden due to their national pride.

People are talking about this not being portuguese! Yes, it doesn't sound like today's Portuguese language but, to all my fellow Portugese people, have you even seen a portuguese text of that time? I tried to read it and it's not like the modern portuguese, so maybe it's possible that it sounded more like a mix of portuguese/spanish/latin!
