I know Rome would never probably ever do this, but I'd love to see a few things changed to it: 1. Have qualifiers from other national shows the week of the Smackoff, but still give Rome's callers the top priority on who qualifies for the event. Have Rome pick the field on CBS Sports Network the night before the event a lot like Selection Sunday on March Madness. Getting the reactions from different hosts and callers seeing their guys qualifying for the field would be cool, and imagine a caller who calls into a show on ESPN Radio on the Tuesday of Smackoff week, plays his way in and has a shot to win on Friday. Say 50 callers total in the field. 30 from Rome/CBS Sports Radio, 5 from ESPN, 5 from Mad Dog's shows, 3 from Fox Sports, and maybe 2 off of Sports Grid where Scott Ferrell is currently at. Kinda has a PGA Tour/LIV Golf feel to it where rivalries could be built. 2. Pay out the entire top 10! Its hard work to make a good call. 50 grand to the winner, 25 for 2nd, etc etc. Gives people an incentive to call and make the best possible call and can still make money even if they don't win the event. The top 10 then is in exempt into next year's event. Everyone else must re-qualify unless your a previous winner or a top 10 finisher. 3. Limit the time on calls. 3 minutes at most. Caller vs caller smack still encouraged but the calls need to have more sports content in them. Gives people more variety of what you can talk about. 4. There would definitely be odds on the event and a lot of gambling going on for this! 5. Imagine the week long buzz for it! Especially during a week like this past week on sports talk radio where its mainly speculation on the NBA free agency market, mid season baseball talk, and very little else to talk about unless your a diehard NHL fan to talk about their offseason moves or you want to dig into the weeds of this PGA Tour/LIV legal shit.
