At least per Yahoo! Finance on June 3, Fairfax Financial trades at a 7.18 PE vs. 8.77 for MKL and 12.13 for BRK. So slightly cheaper than Markel.

You would need to get 20% annualized returns over that 35 years to reach 1,000,000 which is over double the historical market average. So likely if you’re not consistently investing over those 35 years the answer is no.

He's not going to give you stock recommendations for free. I run a small Hedge Fund myself, with less years of track record than this man's HF, and I understand why not. I back up many upside factors he underlines, great points of view and systematic approach. I understand why he is hyper-successful. But going back to why he won't share you free stock ideas, happens because it will hurt the clients we gathered. The main reason. Plus other reasons. Sometimes the client needs time to realize how good we are, perhaps client X is moving from 30% allocation of their net-worth, to a higher 55% of his savings instead, because he realized how good we are. If we were out there screaming about which stocks are in our top-tier watchlists, our value as advisors may plummet. We could stop the flow process that's causing those stocks to get so undervalued, and that will hurt our clients who will get in less cheaply. The stocks we purchased for ourselves and for current clients, but want to get more for them, or new clients. Clients that get in late, may be hurt if we talk too much. They may still be fine, but instead of holding 20 stocks, they would held 18 let's say, because we were loud mouth about 2 which got expensive, or stop decreasing in price. That decreasing the diversification, despite, the new clients probably would do great too anyways. At 18 stocks. Or at 8 but lower exit liquidity. We may talk about the stock to non-clients once we have more undervalued options for ourselves, and the stock already got more expensive. So we can exit at fair value or higher, instead of at a decent profit, once the revenue may go up, and the stock too. But not enough. If you want to support my business, we still accept smaller clients than the ones Mr. Abeyta is after. You can drop your phone number on my prospects processor in my website: KAHNCAPITAL (.(dot)) EU Wish you all the best, or lots of good luck, if you invest without idea of how, and without advisors. Thanks for reading.

With the S&P 500 trading more than 50% above its intrinsic Value I would expect Berkshire is much better value & is trading at a discount due Warren age while the share price could drop on Warren retirement or worse, management will likely buy more stock if share price falls to low.

Just getting started. I am glad for Doombergs business success, I wish the business got a brief description, is it a kind of boutique research house that gets funded through substack subscriptions? 13:30 Doomberg says, regarding banking consolidation, "I don't think we should just sleep walk into an economy where 6 CEOs get to decide who is credit worthy and who isn't". Right? Is there a fundamental flaw in saying about our banking industry: we will put you all in the same playing field but give the largest of you special classification and protections? 14:24 Doomberg just explained at length why the regional banks are especially important for the US economy. If you want to ask about a happy medium at least address his points. You're making him belabor it. If small business is the lifeblood of our economy, as we hear, and small banks can much much better serve small businesses because of human relationships, losing small banks will hurt. Doomberg lays it out in detail. I guess we are in long form. I'll try and relax through it.

He missed thousands of other great investments, too. All investors do. I get what you mean but I think it would have been dumber for Warren to wade into areas he didn't understand. He's finally added people who do understand better, and IIRC, Apple has made Berkshire more money than any other investment.

Re: Banking. The Green Chicken is absolutely correct. We have done everything we can to kill small business in the past 3 years. It has destroyed the community fabric. Look at it this way - Your local credit union may sponsor your daughter's softball team. JP Morgan most certainly won't.
@bbaepro Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Jimmy! I had been looking at this by comparing the US to other countries (that generally have far fewer banks), and seeing the decline in #s of America's banks (which originally grew in number due to protectionist regulations set up to ensure money didn't leave American farming communities). But per your point and Doomberg, perhaps that localization is a feature, and not a bug. The old piece I did in Forbes about this is here: www.forbes.com/sites/investor-hub/2023/03/24/will-americas-smaller-banks-die--and-should-they/?sh=65112e0c65c3
