This is awesome! I was really hoping to find a link to the source code/schematics in the description, as it would benefit everyone if this project was open source and open hardware, allowing for anyone to build one at home/supply their own for competitions. It would also allow for people to verify the code, help fix bugs, add features, etc. Obviously there would need to be a way to verify that the version running on the timers at competitons has been officially signed (maybe they are flashed on site when setting up? Along with some mechanism preventing people re-flashing later, say with a firmware that lowers their submitted times by one second, etc). So many other great projects in the cubing community are open source (tnoodle, the official scramble generator; twizzle and by extension cubing.js, the incredible framework and application for playing with twisty puzzles; cstimer, the de facto home timer these days; trainyu, an excellent alg trainer and virtual cube), and I would love to see this follow suit!

this is a crazy good idea that i dont think anyone would come up with but actually doesnt seem that hard to code or get working, you really showed how inferior the current system is for cubing due to it being stolen from speed stacking. Well done and id love to see this at a comp in the future

How about keeping going for 10+ minute times (and switching to (h:)mm:ss format)? Sure, you would need to run an internal timer and the judge would have to manually stop the timer, but can't really see how this would be particularly difficult.

a great relief in many cases. But there are still some problems, e.g. Not every building has good Wi-Fi, let alone Wi-Fi. Another thing is that printing on those nfc cards will also be quite difficult to deal with (I think your photo and your data printed on the card) and the whole timer will be even more expensive. And hold on, I don't know how long can it works. The battery will be interesting

Actually new competitors won't know the old system. It's more likely to be confusing to returning competitors, and eventually that won't be an issue.

really excited to see this in comps soon!! i know it won't be in full use(saw that scorecards will still be use before it is proved 100% accurate), but it is still really cool and would completely streamline the comp
